I just bought a Panasonic dmr-ez45 VCR/DVD recorder combo. It's advertised on various websites as multi region, but the specs on the back say region 2.

Do I need to something specific to make it multi region? Or have I bought a dud?

Most Panasonics need to be chipped or a special remote used to make them multiregion - they certainly won't be out-the-box, and there's not usually simple remote hacks. Some retailers (usually online) sell them ready hacked, which is probably what you're seeing.

Oh bugger. I thought I was buying a multi region one. Can anyone here who has this model confirm whether I can get it multi region or not? Bit worried now ...

If the place/website you bought it from say it was multi-region then it should be. If not, you've every right to return it. Ones bought from places like Currys etc won't be multi-region.

Even ones that are multi-region will still say region 2 on the box etc. though as that's how they were made originally.

Do a 'backup' of a region 2 you already have using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink. DVD shrink lets you choose which region you want the disc to be when you burn it (if any) and give it a try, will only cost you a blank dvd.
