TalkTalk ex directory
revelat

if you are on talktalk with line rental and your exchange has been upgraded, and your number should be ex directory i would check directory inquirys, my exchange was upgraded about 2 months ago then within the last month i keep getting sales calls and a certain person got my number, my number is never given out to anyone i don't want to have it so i was puzzled as to why this has started to happen, Then thought i would check with directory inquirys and you've guessed it my number is not ex directory.
i had a letter from talktalk at the end of feb about the upgrade and it said any calling features that require a pin have been reset to 1234 and you would need to change it back to your own pin, but to remove me from ex directory is outrageous.

Ah believe it or not been in on directory enquries has nothing to do with it. If your in the phone book thats a different story as sales companies tend to use the phone book.

Its easy to go ex directory but if your number has been published for the latest edition then that simply cant be removed.

Go register with the Telephone preference service, this stops around 80% of unwanted sales calls but takes 30 days to register.

Or a change of number could be an option too.

upgrading the line or something at the exchange will not effect your actual account set up for example your tariff or your bills and therefore neither the directory status, somewhere down the line if yours listed now a request simply must have been made by someone either yourself (which aint the case) family member or the provider in question could have simply just made the changes

Although most of what steven3001 says is correct and logical I too have had my ex-directory listing listed by TalkTalk and I know for a fact that it happened at the time my service was "unbundled" cos they told me so!

So it seems that despite LLU being a physical process of connecting my telephone local ends to TalkTalk's equipment in the BT exchange TalkTalk have obviously failed to ensure that the ex-directory admin process was maintained within their own systems, there are other examples of this if you surf around enough... It's yet another example of their shining ability to stuff up.

They even had the cheek to ask me to confirm that I wanted my ex-directory status restored, because they aren't allowed to change the status without my say so..... and at that point I asked why they thought I was shouting at them??

Being ex-directory isn't a great deal of use these days. The sales companies just dial numbers sequentially, so it doesn't make any difference to them whether you are ex-directory or not.

But I do thoroughly recommend registering for the Telephone Preference Service.........It works very well

Yes, TalkTalk have been rapped for putting ex-DQ numbers back in the DQ.

I agree with companies selling your contact deals being ex-DQ may not be of use, however to some who may have been witnesses and have moved and don't want people to look in a phone book due to reprisals it's still worth it.
