Best business brains in UK or just good telly ?
Sorry if this has been discussed in another thread, but I can't help wondering whether series 3 has been "cast" with candidates selected for their business acumen or simply because their personality and character is likely to make some good telly ? What does anyone else think ? I worry if these are indeed the best business brains we have in the UK (or at least those who fancied being on the show)..... if so British business is doomed ! How many of us think we could do better than most of them ?!

I think a few of them, as usual, have been chosen for their characters rather than business acumen in order to spice up the show. As with the other series, I do wonder sometimes how half of them got there, but I do think they feel the need to keep us entertained and they seem to think that conflict will do the trick. However, I much prefer to see people getting along and working together rather than watching fights. I'm the same with Big Brother - much prefer to watch fun and laughter than fights and rows. I turned off Castaway halfway through the first episode after discovering they'd put in a particularly nasty character to ensure there was constant conflict. Not my cup of tea. I prefer to laugh and smile at the telly rather than scowl and get stressed.
I don't think I'd do any better than most of them but I'd certainly do a better job than the clueless minority in there. Having said that, I wouldn't be able to cope with the nasty characters and backstabbing so I'd probably walk by day 2 anyway. |

I doubt if the best business brains in UK would actually apply for the job.....The most successful people I known would not want to appear on this show.
Some of the candidates, however, do have useful management skills - most have large ego's It is good telly thou! |

It's just big brother, isn't it, but with the focus all on the tasks, and with Sir Alan being both Big Brother and the voting audience. There's a big money job as the prize, and the contestants are all egotistical but at least they are not saying "I don't care about winning, I'm just here for the experience"

oh come on! I have heard countless people say "Oh its getting more like Big Brother now but ill still watch it because it is entertaining!" That is exactly true.......good Tv
but i mean throw an ex-mental asylum member, an MI5 recruit hu looks like 2 blokes moulded into one, and a posh ****** who makes Prince Charles look like Jayne from Big Brother into the same house....i think that sums the goodness of it up. FANTASTIC! if they all get out alive......its anyones guess Last edited by jazz_joe : 07-04-2007 at 00:14. |

It's a bit of both. Tre, for example, is a character but he also talks a lot of business sense.
Sir Alan had more of a hand in the selection process this time and claims they are better business people than last year. I think it's good that they've picked bankrupts, mothers etc who have had trouble getting jobs by conventional routes. |
