HD hype
I've had my Tosh 37wlt66 for a fair old while now, and have finally seen my first HD content, having bought a PS3. I have to say, I was expecting to be blown away having read how great HD is. The reality for me and my girlfriend was that yes, it is better than the SD on Sky, but for the most part, not that much better than DVD. The odd scene jumps out, but overall... hmmm... I was expecting more. Assuming the cost of Blu Ray discs comes down to that of DVD's, then yeah, I'll buy the Blu Ray, but I can't see us paying Sky an extra £10 every month for their HD, it's just not THAT much better. It is more noticeable when you go back to watching Sky after playing games or watching HD stuff on the PS3, but an extra tenners worth? I don't think so.
Overall, I have to conclude that yes, HD is better, but I wouldn't recommend splashing out on it to anyone with a tv that's smaller than 40", and who sits further away than a foot from the tv screen. Overhyped and over priced for me. Dave |

You are entitled to your opinion, I don't agree with the 40" min nor the "value" of SKY HD or that the format is overhyped. I do agree that some people go into it with unrealistic expectations and don't allow for source material playing a huge part in the final result.
What movie did you watch or was it just a HD game? |

I realise you were exagerating with your 1' away but it really does depend on how far you sit from the screen. |

Jarrak, I was watching some movie trailers that I downloaded from the Playstation store, all in HD, with some in the "full" 1080p.
bobcar, yes, I was exagerating! Don't get me wrong, I do think that HD looks great, just not as mind-blowing as I was led to believe. From our normal viewing distance in the lounge it's noticeably better than SD on Sky, but as I said, not so much that it justifies paying an extra tenner a month, although I admit, that's down to personal choice. My own view on Sky is that if it was just £299 for the box, then I would probably get it, but an extra £10 every month?... I have to say though, that I've read that David Attenborough's Planet Earth is coming to Blu Ray this month, and that might just be the thing to show what Blu Ray can do. Dave |
