Is it possible to play .avi divx/xvid files on dvd+rw discs ?

I have burnt several files onto a dvd+rw and finalised the disc, but still get the error message "cannot play disc"

It will play dvd files burnt to dvd+rw, and .avi files on a dvd+r no problem.

Is there any way round this ?
