I love the way he mentions her-it makes it so more believable and that sarah-jane episode was fantastic

I do think that RTD had to break off the relationship somehow cos it wouldn't be right for the Doctor to get emotionally involved. He needs to keep moving on, otherwise he'd keep getting his hearts broken over and over again like he did with Sarah Jane.”

I agree, it could not be just <click> and no Rose anymore. Not under RTDs baton, he wants it to be believable. It will eventually stop as Martha grows on the Doctor and takes his mind of Rose. I know this can annoy those who do not care about this facet of the series, but that's what makes it popular with so many different people, that many can find something there that they like and/or can relate to.

Looks like this will carry on into at least the next episode...re-reading DWM this morning and saw this in the preview of episode 3...

Spoiler
QUOTE: "Martha: You're taking me to the same places you took her...? Ever heard the word 'rebound'?"

(Not technically a spoiler, it's a line of dialogue, but don't want to un-tag it in case someone doesn't want to see it!)

Martha's finally getting fed up with the Doc moping, applauded by many DS posters I guess Good for her. I think they will have a quarrel about this, then something happens to her and the Doc realises he actually cares for her at least in a matey way.

There was considerable groans and eye-rolling at our place when we heard the Doctor moan again about Rose in the last episode.

We both felt that the Christmas episode was meant to deal with this, that CT enabled him to re-discover some joy post-Rose.

Now though that therapy seems to have never happened and it's almost insulting to the new companion to be compared. I think what really gets to me, and maybe this is more for the older viewers, is that the Doctor never pined this way before - something that was at least brought up in "School Reunion".
Yes, I know Rose was meant to be special, that the relationship was different, but I never saw why she was considered special. I found the SJ relationship better or perhaps the more paternal one with Jo.

And whilst RTD does do unequited love quite well, I hardly think DW is the paragon of human relationship on TV...

But now it's RTD who's in charge and that's what he does, he writes about relationships.

As much as all this 'Rose-is-the-most-specialest-companion-ever' stuff irritates me (she's nowhere near my favourite companion), I can see why she is important to him - she helps him out of the 'funk', so to speak.

I just don't want to get to episode 10 and he's still raving on about her while Martha stands around like a lemon! The quote I posted earlier seems to maybe indicate that Martha is getting a bit fed up of it by now, so perhaps by the end of the dalek two-parter we will see the 'ghost' of Rose being banished from their relationship. I hope so, anyway.

i think he would be in the wrong if he didnt mention her again!!! it would be like Sonia never mentioning Jamie again in Eastenders even though she is with Jamie, wud make it totally unrealistic. its the same as in real life, just because we get a new BF or GF, it doenst mean we will never mention an ex again....

Huh? I sense a generation gap here.

There have been dozens of companions of the last 35 years - just seems odd (and rather grating) that this particular one (who I fully admit couldn't much stand) gets harped on about.... a lot.
