Well, Johndeep was a stand out winner for me, although I didn't like him.

My personal favourite ATM is Lewis.

Although Rob is apparently bookies favourite to win. .

Oh not the dustman/builder scenario again (thinking X Factor) He didn't stand out for me. I liked the young one but agree with others he is too young and was sad Shaun went out but they did milk the disabled mother for all it was worth. I vowed not to get hooked on another reality show but I think i have

I liked Shaun, and he had a great voice. I'm sorry he's gone. I haven't really settled on a favourite yet, but going purely by the pictures on the website, I'd say Seamus was most my type.

I think they're all there on merit except Lewis who's there on floppyblondhairedness.

Hehe me too!

Perhaps the bookies will change their mind after the first live show. It always baffles me how they can say who the favourite to win is before they've barely sung a note.

Lewis. He'll win hands down because of his boyband boy / pretty boy looks.

I don't think he will. I understand what you mean but remember ALW has most of the control and if Lewis falls into the bottom 2.....

Agreed, Daniel has the best voice but if I could pick one winner it would be Keith. He's got such a cute little smile, and he's got the most amazing voice.

I don't think there's a standout winner at all at the moment. Unlike the Maria show, it seems as though almost all the contestants would be capable of doing a good job as Joseph, with 4 or 5 really strong contestants.

I didn't think there was a stand out winner in the Maria show either. The best performance was from a different person each week.

I think I go for the slight perm of that. In Maria they told us there was a standout winner and managed to get Helena (who had a stronger voice but never had public support) to the last two to ensure Connie won. Its a fact Aoife could have done the job (not least as she is doing the job twice a week) and Abi is now in her second leading role singing songs that are more difficult. They told us both of them couldn't do it. With Maria they actually had several capable winners and some interesting contestants who were obviously not Maria. In the end they wanted the one who was most familiar (Andrewsesque) to the potential audience. Thats who they got -though they claimed to want something else and something different from the characterisation Connie brings to the role.

This time they seem to me to be spinning it the opposite way. Its very close and even is the claim - but its very close and even because no one is really that much better or more appropriate than anyone else. The top and bottom of the range are not far from the centre wheras in Maria the top end was more numerous and able and the inappropriate (too young, too Romanian...) end was more obvious.

I suspect it will work out the same way - the most experienced singer who will look most mainstream in the role will win.

Although i'd love to see Lee win i have a feeling it may just be Chris that takes the role.

I agree with much of what you say. In HDSPLM their were realisitcally 4 people who could easily play the part of Maria, those being Connie, Helena, Aoife and Abi. Because although. all the final 10 (with the exception of Simona) could sing the SOM songs easily, (Doe a Dear is hardly the greatest challenge is it?). The part isn't primarily about singing, despite ALW's protests that the greatest singer ever had to be found (which was Siobahn apparently- I mean- thats the only possible reason why he favoured her over Aoife when Aoife was obviously the superior actress and ready for the job right?). Anyway those four were the only one with the experience and acting abilities to handle the role.

Helena had the strongest vocal ability , but wasn't as suitable for Maria as the other 3 (IMO), it would have been interesting to . Aoife would have acted the part superbly and had a nice voice (nothing really special though). Abi would have been something different, perhaps a risk because her voice is quite 'earthy' and rich, and maybe not what you'd expect from a maria but 'climb a tree and scrape a knee' discribed her pefectly. Connie was just a generic, Julie Andrew type (at least thats what I felt at the time). She's done very well with the role, but my point is the show would have been no less of a sucess if one of the other three had replaced her.

The difference this year is not that theres no stand out winner (because in reality their wasn't a stand out winner last year either) but that more of the Josephs are capable of the role. Partly because there is no straight acting in Joseph, so theres not so much need to eliminate people who have fantastic voices because of their limited acting ability (like leanne, Siohbon and Belinda in Maria). Also because Jpseph isn't quite as iconic as SOM.

Basically the format of the show (i.e concentrating more on singing) favours finding a Joseph over finding a Maria.
