Are you kidding? The average wage in Britain currently is £26,000 a year. If somebody can give me a job earning £100,000 please let me know!

GPs have to study and work their way up to high salaries.
£100k is more than enough for some reality TV prize, I doubt these people are going to change the fortunes of Amstrad, earning the company billions, if they were they deserve much more cash.

What you have to remember also is that £100000 is just a staring wage. If they do well at the company they may be given a raise and even they just hold steady at their jobs; they will be earning that amount a year!

Isn't that how most salaries work? Working before you get paid, plus I'm sure they'll be paid monthly.
I agree. I don't earn anything like £100K a year, but actually lots of managementy types I know are probably on about 70-80K - if you're some kinda business whiz-kid it's not that amazing a salary...

£100000 salary almost makes an average 3 bed house affordable.

It means that although someone is earning £100,000 it wont mean you will have loads of cash to throw around after you have paid tax and have to get a mortgage on an average house.
The UK apprentice seems kind of cheap overall compared to the US one.

But people on lower wages also manage. £100,000 is more than enough for a job IMO.
You must remember also that the US is a much richer country than us and this is reflected in their TV shows and the fact that the Apprentice UK is on a publicly funded channel, wheras the US version is on a commercial channel.
Last year it would have been a pay-cut for many of the candidates.
I don't know if that's true this year. Certainly it would have been a good deal for at least some of them. Some of them were having trouble getting work through conventional means.

Don't forget performance-related bonuses - that is what can boos the basic salary four business people.
Also while it is true that some GP's do get this it is basically the same salary as a consultant gets in a hospital. More junior doctors get less.

£100,000 isn't a huge amount and IMO is a big reason that we don't see serious talent in the show. I don't earn £100,000, I'm a bit of a distance away from there but the difference isn't big enough for me to quit my job for a 1 in 16 chance of winning.
To put it into context I manage sales people who are on £35k with on target earnings of £55k. If they are performing well they could earn £65k. These are good sales people, very good for our market but would they throw that away for a 1 in 16 chance of working for a company that has never really been a market leader and has had its fair share of failure.

The £100k is a good nominal sum. It's higher than almost all the contestants will be earning already, and should be plenty reward for the job the winner gets. The salary isn't the prize, the job is.
This job, and the profile that goes with it, could be a great stepping stone to better things.
