I saw a clip from the RR show with Alex on it last night. It was on Wossy's show when he was interviewing Rhona

They didn't show any close-ups but it was Alex and four women, at least two of whom were larger ladies, Vanessa and Anne Diamond ?

The light went round and I think it was Vanessa who got the drop

Well, at least we now know that Alex isn't first one out !!

Going off topic for a moment, I thought JR's Camilla comment to Noddy Holder was priceless.

In an attempt to stay on topic I wonder if any of the Angels think that Alex is as handsome as a young Robert Redford

Judge for yourselves by catching one of my favourite films this afternoon, Barefoot In The Park, on Beeb 2 at 3.30, War Permitting

It's like a warm bath, just sink in and luxuriate

RR for the ladies, Jane Fonda for us blokes, really witty Neil Simon script, great title song, romantic comedy at it's absolute best

There again I am an old softie so it might not be to everyone's taste

Robert Redford and Alex are both good looking. I dont think there is much dispute about that. You can only compare them on their visual appeal, which is not the whole picture. We only know RR from his films and the odd interview, so what he is like as a person is anyones guess.

Alex's appeal was as much to do with personality, which we got to see in the unique circumstances of bb, as it was with looks. I have realised this, due to my wanning interest. Just being able to look at Alex or see him for a few minutes in a limited format show, isn't enough. If you want to know who is better looking ,I would probably say Alex.

Now if you were comparing him with a young Robert Wagner thats a different matter. or Ewen Mcgregor, just as he is, or Jonny Depp.........

On first impressions you do notice somebody's looks and I did think Alex was good-looking when he was first introduced to the nation. However, the eye gets used to what people look like. If somebody dyed their hair green, you would probably think it looked strange at first but, given time, you would just accept it as a part of them. It's the same with Alex. You don't sit there thinking "isn't he stunning" 24/7. I don't think he's stunning anyway. Spencer is better-looking than Alex, isn't he?

Sorry, Sorca, I wasn't angling for a reply to my question.

It was just a subterfuge to get in a mention of one of my fave films

Strangely, I didn't find Alex all that good looking at first and didn't understand what Davina was going on about when she called him DDG.

All I saw then was a lanky, skinny kid that didn't fit into the image of what I'd imagined to be a male model to look like (think Nathan in Model Behaviour). It was the little things that he did that made me notice him.

At the start, when they were all gather to together at the sofa to get to know each other, Alex moved away to the kitchen and try to figure out how to use the appliances. Alex wasn't really interested in the appliances, he was trying to get away from the crowd and he seem uncomfortable around them.

For me, he got better looking as the weeks went by and by the end I could see why the model scout pick his face from crowd during that Batman party. I don't know why this is, maybe it's because he put on weight or his hair grew longer or his beard suited him more than his goatee.

I agree with Sorca, that Alex's appeal was more to do with his personality, how he was not what I expected, how I thought I figured him out, only for him to surprise me time and time again and how different he is from a lot men I see in the media and meet every day.

As for Spencer, he looks like a teenage boy, he reminds some women of their first boyfriend. I never really noticed him, his looks and behaviour reminds me of a typical student, nothing interesting.

As for RR, I've always prefered Paul Newman anyway.

Alex and Spencer are both good looking but in totally different ways.

It may be just me, but I think the proportions of Spencer's face are much more classically feminine than Alex's, with quite delicate features in fact. However, Spencer's laddish personality give him a more general masculine aura.

I really would like to see more of both of them on TV. Spencer is all loved up now, but he would have been good on 'yoof' tv.

Did anyone see that travel show on BB1 with Jeremy Theakston and a couple of others? A travel show with a difference. Can't remember the name of it, but they went off to a new location every week, and visited places, shops, bars, which were suggested by viewers emails. It had a lot of input from the host as well as the viewer - Alex would be great in something like that if it is ever recommissioned.

Spencer's head is also a more symetrical shape than Alex's, which when seen in profile is quite large at the back. As a model he would have been very aware of this and may have been a reason why he was reluctant to have his long hair cut, resulting in him being dumped by his agency before BB.

Rather like Custard-cream, I didn't take much notice of Alex's looks until he began to interest me as a person, now I think he is gorgeous, as when I look at him it is the person I grew so fond of that I see.
With Spencer, he doesn't have the type of looks that appeal to me, but I can see why some might think him handsome. I do find his personality a bit unappealing and therefore would be very unlikely to ever find him attrative.

Sir, in light of the fact that you omitted the term IMHO (In My Honest/Humble Opinion) I take it you will now indulge us with your professional qualifications which permit you to make such an unpopular and astonishing remark.

I look forward to being duly awe struck when you reveal that you are a respected portrait artist, a cosmetic surgeon or even run a successful model agency.

My opinions are always honest and humble Faequeen, I thought that was an understood and I was only continuing the debate of comparing the relative features of Alex and Spencer.
As for my qualifications on this subject, I have none that are professionally recognised, I am totally self taught, it's called the Eyes Wide Open Philosophy.

I don't know if one needs to be able to draw, use a scalpel or have the required business acumen to perform the simple act of describing the shape of someones head.

Anyway, Alex having a different shaped head to Spencer doesn't make him any less gorgeous to the ladies.

No doubt gained at the University of Life or since we are discussing bumps... the School of Hard Knocks?

Just thought it my 'business' to 'draw' your attention to a 'cutting' remark ...

No indeed but are you now in danger of setting yourself up as an expert on the female psyche??

-- in which case, why did he have his hair cut short afterwards anyway, prior to BB3?? Wouldn't it have made more sense for Alex to have kept his hair long -- if only to justify his obstinacy over it?
Am I the only one who's confused by your account?

ps. What's more, he seems very happy to continue with a short hairstyle....... Doesn't tie in with someone who was so stubborn about keeping his long hair that he was willing to lose his employment over it.

ps. I know I've questioned you on this before, bystander (sorry!), but it genuinely discombobulates me.
..........Unless Alex was being completely illogical......which i concede is possible (eg. as PJ said in the DR, no-one knows how Alex's mind works....)

With regards Alex's reluctance to cut his long hair, I'm only going by what someone from the agency said and I'm sure that wasn't the only reason they let him go.
Why did he have his hair cut short before BB3 and still has it now? Quite simple really, someone in the world of television, a step up from catalogue modelling, convinced him with a better argument, that his long hair was a bit naff and that a shorter style would suit him better. Once he'd taken the plunge and been told how good he looked, a vanity attack kicked in and Alex and his shorter haircut lived happily ever after.

Mystic just how shaky would this evidence be in a DS court??

1. He has no knowledge that Alex was reluctant to cut his hair.
2. (Someone said) Hearsay.
3. Unable to quote reliable sources.
4. (Catalogue work) Undermining our client's previous occupation.
5. Citing a known requisite (vanity) for our client's profession and using it as a tool of ridicule.

Can we sentence him now???

Mystic might have the tape, where a woman, I believe from his agency, said he wouldn't get his haircut and cited that as a reason or the reason he was let go.
I think it was the programme that showed you all their videos but it was definitely televised.

Thanks bystander, was it one of the BBLB episodes? That must be one I missed. But OK, even so, apart from the fact that Select's side of the story about why he was dropped differs from Alex's, I find the haircut explanation unconvincing. And not least because many (if not most) of the models currently on Select's books have long floppy hair like Alex did.

Good tongue-in-cheek attempt at an explanation why he chose to cut his hair anyway....but I don't buy it....
1.How come Alex turned up for audition interviews already with his short hairstyle? (before he was confirmed as a contestant)
2. I don't believe that they would advise him on his appearance for BB3, why should they, especially as it's a reality show thus take them as they choose to be?
According to your logic, the TV producers, by the same token, would also have told Alison to go on a diet before she enters the house (clinical obesity looks so naff and revolting).....Tim would have been told to ditch the hairdye and go au naturel (save himself a lot of ridicule and grief)...... Jonny would have been told to shave his beard (so naff, and makes him look like a creep)...... Kate would have been told to get her crooked grin sorted (straight teeth looks so much better ----> ...)....etc etc
3. My dear FQ you are correct of course, hearsay is not admissible evidence...........unless that woman is the Queen

On the sports stars team are Dennis Taylor ( Snooker), Frank Stapleton ( Footie), Nick Gillingham ( Swimmer?), Steve Cram ( Athlete) and Richard Dunwoody ( NH Jockey)

From the last episode the teams play amongst themselves to find a champion, the two champions then meet in a grand final.

Did anyone else see the conversation and can tell us a little more about it? Or was it just bystander?

I've just been watching a brilliant conversation between Alex and Jade. Alex is cooking them both breakfast:

Jade: Who taught you that? Your mum?

Alex: Who has?

Jade: Uh?

Alex: Who is?

Alex: You have been talking about her?

Jade: (confused) Cuban?

Alex: Cuban? (irritated) Who has been talking about my mum?

Jade: I said who taught you that, your mum? And then I thought you said Cuban.

Alex: Is that what you said? Who taught you that you said to me?

Jade: Yeah.

Alex: I didn't know you said that.
