I have just bought a new HD 42" Widescreen LCD tv and have got sky+ connected to it via a scart socket.

It does not look a brilliant picture and can be a bit fuzzy at times.

What do people recommend? Getting an HD adpater to connect the Sky+ to the tv or get a better scart socket?

Thanks in advance

Marc

What you are seeing is SD (which is a low resolution broadcast) being displayed on a high resolution display, this can affect the way it looks to a certain extent. They are basically designed for HD content.

End results do vary, this can be down to - Make/Model LCD/Plasma - Screen size - User settings - Source.

I doubt a new scart will help. So long as the one you are using is well shielded and you have selected RGB from the Sky menu, this will be the best connection available to you.

Careful setting of the user controls and minimal use of the digital enhancements should give you a more than acceptable image.

A HD adapter will be of no use.

Have you thought about upgrading to Sky HD?

I've only just upgraded to Sky+ - wasn't intending to get a new tv but thought what the hell.

Normal terristal tv channels have a perfect picture; its just the Sky+ is a bit fuzzy at times

When you say "Normal terristal tv channels" do you mean the ones your getting through the aerial and that ALL the channels you view on Sky are fuzzy?

Or is the playback of recorded progs on Sky+ Fuzzy?

Now you are seeing the difference between analogue and digital broadcasts.

A good analogue broadcast will certainly show how disappointing digital can be with their compressed/low bitrate broadcasts.

To be honest there is not a lot you can do. Even spending £100 on a new scart will do absolutely nothing for when broadcasters decide to limit bitrate in favour of channel quantity.

In reference to Sky+:

How long have you had it?

Were you a new customer?

Just a thought. Sky have supposedly cut the HD price to £149 for new customers, just wondered if you could cancel (30 day period) and upgrade.

The terresital is coming through the normal arial. The Sky channels and the recordings can be a bit fuzzy. Its not that bad but you can tell the difference.

I've had Sky+ for about 2 months now and I just upgraded from the standard packages I had.

You've set the SKY+ box to output as RGB?

and the digi box setting is 16:9 Widescreen - in the menu, to match the tv.
