which is better? what is the difference? i know difference between DVI and HDMI is that the sound is also carried in HDMI.

as this is for my Xbox 360 i'm not fussed for HDMI as i run the sound through my amp (plus no hdmi socket yet!). will the pic be any different in DVI or component?

i've found the following cable that terminates in a DVI-i plug: http://www.gottohav.co.uk/proddetail...60dvicomponent

my understanding is that it is all digital signal, so there shouldnt be a difference, but i may be wrong...

anyone comment please?

There is absolutely no point using adapters. The signal will be best viewed over whichever connection they were originally outputted in.

There is a offical microsoft 360 VGA cable which currently offers the best picture quality possible. There are no digital video connections from the 360 although you can use a VGA-DVI adapter if your screen doesnt have VGA input. Component to VGA cables just ask for problems, avoid them.

One write up I read, as they both carry HD signal, just one is anolog the other digital & there is no proven difference between them.

Component Video is the best type of analogue connection you will find on consumer electronics equipment. You get improved quality over composite video because the component parts of the video signal are not multiplexed together.

DVI is fully digital video interconnect that offers the same level of video quality (they are both digital) as HDMI

HDMI extends the DVI specification to allow audio and control singals (like SCART) to be transferred, and was designed, unlike DVI to natively support digital rights management.

Actually not true, RGB is the highest quality of analogue connection - Component is a slightly encoded verson of RGB. However, there's nothing (except computers) which produces native RGB - DVD and digital TV only produce the lesser component signals.
