Of the two, I'd buy the Samsung - for no other reason than the fact that LG and Philips :spits: are virtually one and the same now, and Philips stuff seems to have woeful reliability and shocking customer service (search these forums for Philips and you'll find plenty of examples).
Besides, I've read plenty of threads on here singing the praises of the Samsung. |

The Samsung is awful, the reliability and build quality is very poor.
The LG is a very good tv, although an old model now. fat controller, i'm not entirely sure why you think LG and Philips are virtually one and the same? They make LCD Panels together, that's all... |

The LG is a very good tv, although an old model now. I've got a Samsung R7, and apart from a little vibration rattle (which is probably due to the way I've got it mounted) it's been faultless and amazing value for money. I'm saving my pennies for one of the native 1080 F7 series next... |

I believe Samsung and Sony have a similar joint effort - which would lead me to again pick the Samsung (I confess to liking Sony kit). My other reason for preferring the Samsung over the LG was based on personal experience of products from each manufacter - I have had products from both, with better reliability from Samsung kit (for brown goods at least). Don't get me wrong, I am not out to bash LG for the sake of it - I have an LG Washing Machine, which has been a great machine (so far) and I am very happy with it. |

Picture quality is brilliant, sound quality abysml, as is the reliability. |

I am leaning towards the Samsung. It seems to have a higher spec, better and a lot more reviews than the LG.
Anyone else have a view on these two? Thanks |

The Samsung R7 series is very poor.
I originally purchased a Samsung LE26R74BDX for my bedroom, which went straight back. I replaced it with an LG 26LC2R, and is excellent. Comparing the Samsung and LG, the Samsung was very poor. Cheap plastic build quality (typical Samsung), slow to respond to the remote (again typical Samsung), dull and grainy scart pictures, backlight bleed on panel, panel got very hot compared to others and dreadful thin sound quality. The picture quality from the Samsung was good, and that's all I can say about it. The picture on the LG is just as good, if not better. BBC HD looks amazing on it. ![]() The LG is much better, and has none of these issues. The build quality is solid and the sound quality is superb too.

Thanks Dan From my experiences, I would recommend LG over Samsung any day. You will not be disappointed.
