I have sort of narrowed my choice of HDTV down to

Hitachi 32LD8700, Wharfedale LCD3710HDAF, LG 37LE2R or Philips 32PF7531D/10

Does anyone have a view as to which they'd get. Size isn't too important for me, out of the four. Budget is though with £650 pretty much top of the ceiling.

LG without a doubt.

The Hitachi and Wharfedale are pretty much the same (other than screen size) and the Philips is unreliable...

Thanks tellyman for those words of wisdom. One 37" HDTV arriving, when I get my hands on the cash that is

Yes, they use the same panels? what does that indicate? nothing.

In most cases, the panel is the most reliable part of a TV. It's the PSU and Main Board that are least reliable, of which Philips and their 'Zapper PCB' tend to cause the most problems...

Presumably they both use "Philips LG Displays" LCD panels?.

The panel aside the power and flexibility of the electronics can make all the difference. Two tellys based on the same panel can be worlds apart in how the handle de-interlacing and scaling thanks to an £50 spent on the core chipset and that's is why there is such a wide range of opinion on the overall quality of LCD with SD sources.

I popped into Comet the other day to have a look at a few of the HDTV's. Ok not all had great pics, but that may well be down to the signal getting split over so many screens. Anyway the one I really fancy getting is this one. linky

Does anyone have any expierence of this TV?

The Samsung's we've sold have been really good, but unfortunately our buying group (who were Samsung's biggest UK customer) have now stopped stocking them. Typical management type story, Samsung wanted to increase the price, the buying group wanting the price lowering - no problem, Samsung sets are in short supply, so Samsung dropped their biggest customer!

I just hope then they still have the one I want when my money comes through *crosses fingers*. If not it may well have to be the 50" Sony they had on offer instead.
