You'll get nowhere.

It's not a fault.

How does one dead pixel look exactly? Just curious...

a tiny dot the size of a pin point, usually.

Think most companies don;t do anything unless there is 5 or more dead pixels (it could be 8).

I was told when I purchased my TV from comet that their extended warrenty covers 1 dead pixel!

maybe dead was wrong , it is stuck showing red permanently , when i rang comet c.s. i asked what their policy was about it , the bloke was adamant an engineer had to come out to see it and repair it , i said to him there was no way that it could be repaired at home , then he said if it couldnt be repaired i would get a new tv , wish me luck , i can see a whole world of fun happening when the engineer turns up

The engineer could class this as a 'no fault found' and charge you £45.

In which case you stick the bill where the sun doesn't shine!

Certainly manufacturers have a certain threshold, under which they don't consider the panel as faulty. However, this has no validity under UK law, there is plenty of precedent for taking the dealer to small claims court and winning.

i would like to see them try when i specifically asked what the policy was on 'one' stuck pixel and all they would do is to send an engineer out !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as I remember, the standard that they go to is up to 7 pixels or 21 sub-pixels dependant on colour and location.
Used to work for Comet and at the time 18 months ago, we would refer to manufacturers guidelines which varied tremendously, but any write off would be dependant on them. Comet would go by their policy as they wouldnt get credit if exchanged without authorisation, so it did vary set to set. Dont know if its the same now of course, but might be worth seeing where LG stand on pixels as it probably would dictate Comets responce.

Good luck

It depends where the pixels are too (as to if they count it as a fault)! If there in a close cluster (3 in an area less than an inch) you'll have more luck than one in each corner.

With your one dead pixel, you could try gently massaging it (no thats not a wind up).

If that doesnt work, you can also send a pure white signal to the screen and leave it for a couple of hours, that can also pop it back into life.

me again , just got in from work and i thought i would have a look through the manual to see if it had any reference to dead pixels as i am sure i have seen / heard about this in manuals from different manufacturers ( can anyone confirm this for me please ) , anyway , there is absoloutly no reference to pixel issues whatsoever , i can see this turning into a fun experience a week saturday

LG's policy certainly isn't pixel free.

I *THINK* it's 4 dead or 8 stuck.

then surely i should have been informed of that at time of purchase , and or that info should have been included in the manual

Why would you have been informed of it? It's part of LCD technology. It doesn't hinder or affect the picture whatsoever.

still an annoying fault though

ok , hands up , i know what you are saying and to a certain degree i agree with you , from my point of view though , i demand perfection , i have not got perfection though , so therefore i am going to argue the toss over it , if i get nowhere then so be it , at least i know i have given it my best shot , i also have visions of me stood in comet telling everybody who is looking at buying from there that i would go elsewhere because if they have a problem then they are going to have major hassle !!!!! , i have got the engineers appt brought forward to monday afternoon from a week tomorrow so if i dont post come monday can someone please forward a cake ( chocolate please ) with a file inside it so i can break out of jail as i will most likely be up on a murder charge if i dont get my own way

That won't do any good, As far as I know Comet are the only major retailer who cover dead pixels and screen burn in their guarantee (if you read the tiny fine print of retailers like Currys or Richer Sounds for example you will see they exclude these faults).

I understand that you only have the manufactuer guarantee which as was stated above, will only cover dead pixelling when there are at least 5 dead pixels in any one area (it varies from make to make), so it won't make any difference if you bought that TV in Currys or whereever.

theres no guarantee that when you buy a new lcd that it hasnt already got dead pixels and this is stated by all manufacturs, i was lucky when i bought mine that the HD socket didnt work as well as having 2 dead pixels , thats the only reason for the swap...

Still not nice I know - but won't that be classed a 1 stuck sub-pixel - ie. not even one pixel.

I hope it's not too near the centre of the screen.

Cheers, daveac

If you're that concerned about it, be prepared to take Comet to small claims court over the matter!.
