The job should be done in the home.

Oh, and Nigel, I'm about to send you a PM.

I was listening to a salesman in Comet the other day explaining their after sales warranty and seven pixels were mentioned for the manufacturer to care.

Also if you took out the extended warranty you get your TV replaced even if you get just one dead pixel.

Well I feel sorry for him!

I usually use three benches to change a panel, one for the set, one for the new panel, and one to put the old panel on when it comes out.

He may (probably will) bring a stand to hold the set, but he'll still need a fair bit of room - and a lot of screwdrivering!!!.

so ...................... , the bloke came yesterday morning with the new panel , nice friendly guy and all that but the panel was wrong !!!!!!!!!!!!!! , so the tv was pulled apart for nothing !!!!!!!!!!!!! , anyway , there was no one in the service centre so an answer to the outcome could not be had , i rang comet service and the lass on the phone that another new panel would need to be ordered !!!!!!!!!!!!! , so i said hang on , i was told if a new panel was not available in 14 days i would get a refund or replacement , and as the tv has not been repaired i am going to pursue that avenue on tuesday , it sems quite clear to me , i was wondering what other ppl thought about it , tia ---- paul

Why the attitude?

You seem to be criticising every aspect of this, even though it shouldn't be happening!

With your one dead pixel, you could try gently massaging it (no thats not a wind up).

If that doesnt work, you can also send a pure white signal to the screen and leave it for a couple of hours, that can also pop it back into life.

I would just like to say thanks to you. The pressure method fixed a dead pixel that my hubby's monitor has had since he bought it ages ago.

He thought it was a windup and was gobsmacked when it actually sorted it out

I have had an LG 26" LCD for about six months. Shortly after purchase I noticed one dead pixel near the centre of the screen. However, it is not noticeable from a normal viewing distance and no others have appeared since. I don't worry about it and have almost forgotten it is there. I would be embarrassed to call an engineer out over such an insignificant fault.

As far as I am aware, TV manufacturers have different policies with regards to dead pixels and very few in the EU would regard one dead pixel as enough of a problem to justify replacement. I don't think dead pixels can be repaired. Stuck pixels may be 'reactivated' by using some the tricks already mentioned in this thread.

See Wikipedia (and links from this page) for more information.

Good luck getting a refund, you'll need it.

You'll get a gift voucher to the value if there's nothing else instore.

You do realise that the chances of your next LCD having a dead/stuck pixel is still fairly high?

Don't know about cheap sets, but Sony and Sharp very rarely have any duff pixels - with either of those the chances of a new set having a duff pixel are VERY slight.

I've seen a few Sharp sets with dead pixels, only a couple on Sony's though.

You'll have been given an SED number, that doesn't entitle you to a refund.

Weird.

That's completely against company policy, having said that though, so is the TV being written off.

Next time go buy a TV from somewhere else, find a dead pixel and they'll stick to the manufacturers guidelines, meaning you're stuck with it.

Exceptional service from Comet, in my opinion.

quite agree , not complaining either , had a look at tesco yesterday and they are doing the 32LC3R for £500 , seems a reasonable price , i know i can get it cheaper off the net , but spending that sort of money i want somewhere physical to go back to if there are problems

Tesco divert you to the manufacturer, as do Currys and the likes.

Comet is the *ONLY* electronics retailer with it's own service backup.

No it's not!

It might be the only MULTIPLE - but no way is it the only electronics retailer!, there are thousands of others who have their own service backup.

In any case, it's not the manufacturers responsibility, it's the retailers - it's up to them to sort any problems out, not shove you off to a third party.
