I'm off to Spain for a couple of weeks later this year and I can't find a definitive answer to my question...

All the networks that T-Mobile roam with in Spain seem to have 3G and GPRS support... but will Web 'n Walk work over there via a T-Mobile phone used as a modem to plug into my laptop?

You'll be logging on to the local network so you'd need their access details - and you'll be charged for it.

So I wouldn't roam straight onto it, along with my normal phonecalls/texts/phoneline?

Calls and texts will roam no problem - but using the phone as a modem is likely to be different as IIRC all software which allows you to get your lappy online with your phone requires some kind of logon details, whether username and password or APN address.

When you roam you use exactly the same settings as in the UK, so no need to worry about that. GPRS roaming isn't included in W&W, it's charged at £7.50/Mb (!) in Spain. Under the Detailed Costs bit of the Going Abroad section:
WAP (using GPRS) £7.50 per Mb
Office Link 0.2p per Kb
BlackBerry 0.73p per Kb
3G (where available) £7.50 per Mb

Data whilst roaming is extortionate - on some networks/countries it can be as high as £20/mb.

Hmm, £7.50 a MB? Cheers for the definitive info, but I think I'll give it a miss!

Bloody hell - I wonder if this is covered within the European Parliament thing that's just gone through about call charges while abroad?

The OP was talking about using the phone as a modem - what you've quoted is for the web from a handset.

He mentioned 3G and GPRS, for which the charges mentioned above would be applicable.
