I was thinking of moving to Orange PAYG as I liked the free texts per day extra pack you could get and they had the phone I wanted...

But now I think I'll just buy the phone from the manufacturer/eBay and stick my Virgin SIM card in... what an apalling price rise!
”

Beware!!
On Orange PAYG, if you lose your mobile phone and are not insured under Orange Care they will not send you another SIM - hence you will lose your number!

That's why I moved back to Virgin! The customer service is excellent and they haven't changed their prices once!

P.S. - And no mention of the option to transfer your mobile number to another operator if you're not satisfied. Virgin was quite up front about that little fact!

Does anyone have an email address to which I can forward complaints to orange payg.
Ive looked on their website and the contact us section, but there dosent seem to be anything regarding complaints. Do they think they're so good that nobody will ever need to complain?!

Where is the logic?
They tried to change the amount of free texts last year but pulled a U turn. Now it seems they are going one step further.

I assume those on "orange out here" or other package that gives you free texts will still get their x amount of free texts?

Increasing the price from 5p to 12p is insane. Regardless of when they last increased things, its a very competitive market.
I'll have no problem switching to a different network, whichever one gives me the cheap/free texts.
What worries me is if orange are starting an industry wide price rise....

Just in case you were re-searching this. O2 have a pay and go package called the PAY AND GO WILD

I don't see the big deal myself but that's probably because i won't really be affected. If anyone is a big texter then the message pack is good (used to be Orange out here) with the 5 free texts a day. It's £19.99 a year with £5 free credit when you first purchase and if you use the whole five free texts every day then you've already used about £18 in just one month.

For the text prices going up to 12p, aren't O2 and vodafone's texts 12p anyway? I know that's not the point but c'est la vie. Plus everyone's getting reserve call(s) when the money's done.

On a side note, they're now allowing £5 PAYG swipe top ups again.

O2 have a package called PAY AND GO WILD. with this package you will get 50 free minutes to any other network and 50 free text msg - all for 10.00 direct debit a month - and YES - it is a PAY AND GO handset with no form of credit check - just pay and go

If you are a txt maniac, O2 offer something called BOLT-ONS
basically - for 3.99 a month debitted from your account - you get 50 free txt msgs

then their is the TXT 100 - for 6.99 a month - 100 free txt msg's

If you send hundreds of text msg's a month - then O2 offer a PAY AND GO SIM (AROUND 13.00 TO PURCHASE) in were you will get 300 TXT MSG'S FREE!!!!!! A MONTH. all you have to do is topp up your handset with a tenner, thats yours to keep and you will have 300 free txt a month. O2 dont advertise this for obvious reasons - you can purchase on of these sims online at www.o2.co.uk click on shop

In case you were wondering - i am not a O2 fanatic, i just work for them - any more questions, post me a reply

Erm most of those deals aren't actually that good.

TXT 100 - for 6.99 a month - 100 free txt msg's, so that's £84 a year for 1200 messages.
Or Orange text saver - £19.99 a year - 5 free texts a day, so that's £19.99 a year for 1825 messages.

You could say that TXT 100 doesn't have a daily limit but you also get £5 free credit with text saver, so there's adv's and disadv's to both but text saver looks far superior to me.

And no i don't work for Orange

Nothing? I would hardly call £10 a month minimum top-up nothing plus the price for the sim in the first place.

So...
£10 * 12 = £120 a year
plus the one off £9.99 for the sim card

Oftel Update

I got a reply from Oftel which is kind of ambivilant. They will make a registration of my complaint. Whatever that means? They also said that they havent forced any companies to increase prices and that price rises are up to Orange.

For LTT: Voda and O2's contract price for text messages is 12p. Voda pay as you go start at 12p but depending on tarrif go down as you use more. O2's pay as you go text messages are 10p so are T-mobile and Virgin.

Yeah but you still have to pay it. It's like saying buy one get one free, you still have to buy the first one to get the second free. So it's not really free in that sense.

I'm glad I found this thread - I was considering ditching o2 for Orange. Don't think I will now.

My main worry is that now Orange is inceasing its charges, the likes of o2 are going to start doing the same.

But by OFTEL forcing the companies to reduce the termination charge they've got to make their profits elsewhere. I imagine all networks will be increasing their charges any time now.

I have been an Orange subscriber since I returmed my Rabbit 'phone to Hutchison Telecom in 1992..Orange started in 1993 with a Nokia 2140 handset.

I got a text message re the new PAYG rates this past Tuesday...I have about £100 credit on my phone...but no doubt I shall have to pay the new rates from May 1st

France Telecom is billions of Euros in debt and of course the 3G startup is going to cost more.

The ordinary talking customer os going to have to pay for this of course...this is a smart move by Orange before Ofcom gets up and running.Had they waited until after the Ofcom start - this move might havebeen blocked,But since Mr Brown got all the dosh from the 3G licences I doubt the Government would block these price raises.

Interesting to see what happens with the piggy-back service providers like Virgin who are having a hell of a row with Deutsche Telecom.

The answer - try to use your 'phone less but watch out for the 60 day -no calls - disconnection that some providers are operating.

They then charge you for reconnection!

Anything to make a buck!

But I don't complain - I bought 3 Motorola M3788 PAYG boxes for £20 each 2 years ago and a supply of spare earphones,car-chargers and leather covers plus 2 spare batteries all at knock-down prices as this model became redundant in Spring 2001.It is a great 'phone with excellent shielding and the capacity to take 4 AA batteries in emergency.

How nice of them!

i've got a nokia 3330 with orange pay as you go, and i also have Orange Out Here (5 free texts a day etc). am i right in thinking that they're going to be scrapping Out Here and charging £19.99 a year for only 3 free texts a day??

if that's the case then im majorly p*ssed off. ive had my moby for about 18 months and the only reason i bought it was cos of the 5 free texts. ive had £10 on my moby for over 4 months now, i hardly ever have to top up. i cannot afford to pay the £20 a year, as well as the up in calls/texts. it completely rude, surely they just cant change the plan willy nilly.

can someone help me tho - can i change to a different phone company (o2/vodafone etc) and still use my existing moby? i really cant afford to by a new PAYG moby - esp as theyre increasing the prices again. so what do i do? ring up orange and tell them to take me off the network and then buy a new sim-card for another network? please help. bye bye orange.

Orange will charge you an admin fee of about £30-40 to unlock the handset and then you will be able to stick any sim card in.

They may have reduced this charge by now phone up and ask. You should be able to find a high street retailer who will unlock it for you for £10 - £15.
