WRONG ROAD
13/04/2007

WE had our doubts when X Factor flops Eton Road claimed to be signed to top record label Sony BMG.

And sure enough it's a load of tosh. "Eton Road do not have a deal with us," said a spokesman.

On the Road to nowhere?
Source: Daily Mirror

Now before all the Eton Road fans start posting like mad about not to believe what the papers say....could it be true??

I think the SBMG rumour started because someone found the HMV site where taking pre-orders for an album, which listed SBMG as their record label. However, that isn't up anymore.
I don't think they ever actually said themselves that they were with SBMG.
They have said that they have a single out in September, but we haven't heard any confirmations of an album.

Why can't we just say, no, instead?

You must be paying a lot of attention to their progress if you know where they are playing

Ah right, I see!
Thanks for clearing that up.

You don't need a record deal nowadays to release a single, just make a tune, put it on Itunes and it can chart.

I predicted during X-Factor that Eton Road would end up exactly like Tabby. Looks like it's coming true.

Tabby Callaghan. Mrs O went on about how he was going to be huge with all these offers from America and that people like Steve Tyler from Aerosmith wanted to work with him.

It all came to nothing but he still gigs and seems to make a reasonable living at it.

Sharon never claimed Eton road had offers from America or people like steve Tyler or anyone like him
wanting to work with them.
Personally I see no similarities between Tabby and Eton Road but if you want to try to create analogies then so be it.

I don't see Leona releasing anything yet but people are still raving about her.

I didn't say they did, someone asked who Tabby was. (and he's a bloody good guitarist) But let's be honest when you go out at that stage of the competition you hardly have the majority of the public behind you.

Oh my lol. I think I need to keep this permanently on copy.

Leona is working on her new album in LA. She's signed to J.Records and will be releasing material later this year. People are still raving about her because she's so good.

Anyway, this is Eton Road's thread. I think Val's analogy is because Louis said he would work with ER and make them the next big boy band.

Both acts were 'seen' as very popular particularly with the younger audience. Neither were particularly good at singing in tune. Both were seen as definite for an album deal. Neither secured it. Seems very similar to me.

Tabby went on to release a single which had little or no impact. Only time will tell if same outcome for Eton Road.

Tabby released a single? I never heard it.

And I must say MB, you're becoming one of my favourite posters. You always talk sense and are realistic but fair in your views.

I am unrealistic in my worship of the MacDonalds.

The MacDonalds were known for singing in tune and great harmonies, not so with Eton Rod

They were known for putting everyone to sleep with their cheesy and static performances in my house - that and a pointless media bandwagon

the only confirmation of a single from Eton road has come from fan threads like this one.

There was a rumour that they would release a single in May, then September but i doubt they will just record a song and put it on the internet and hope people buy it. Without the backing of a record label they simply won't be able to market it.

I don't think it is going to happen now. Unless they get it out before the next X Factor, they won't have the same market they currently have. I'm afraid they'll be old news.

Wrong! the lads themselves confirmed the single on the Xfactor tour and at their recent gigs and the release has been wisely moved from summer to september (which people in the industry consider to be a much better slot)...

It's also been officially announced that they will be supporting Girls Aloud in Plymouth on 9 June in front of a 20,000 crowd...
