Hi,

Just accuired a RD-7106 home cinema amp, but I am a little confused with regards to connecting a subwoofer for 5.1 sound. I currently have the following connected on the back of the Sherwood amp:

Sky Plus box connected via Optical #1 (enabled and working)
Liteon LVW5028 DVD recorder via Optical #2 (enabled and working- top gun in DTS mode rocks!!)

Speakers: FL FR RL RR Center via the terminal posts.

The manual says that a sub can be connected via the preamp connector on the back of the sherwood. (6x rca plugs)

I currently also have an accustic solutions 5.1 analog powered system (power sub, with the speaker connecting into the sub).

the question is: can i connect the sub and speakers via the sherwood pre-out connections into the subs' 6x rca connections and if so, does anything need adjusting on the sherwood- the manual is really pants (I usually have no problems wiring/setting up things, but I think i am missing something here!!)

thanks in advance

Kris

The sub output is usuallly a single rca socket which you connect to a powered sub woofer. The 6 rca socket are inputs for surround that the amps own decoders can't handle or if you want a better decoder to do the deocoding and the amp to just do the analogue amplification. As these are inputs you cannot connect it up as you suggest.

As for the sub woofer you have it may work if there is an input for the sub out from your amp but to be honest you would be better off buying a sub woofer, powered, because it would probably be far better.

You also may be able to use the speakers from the set up you have now but you will again be better off buying a fresh speaker set up.The Sherwood amp I would guess is far better than the AR set up. Check the speaker impedence and the Sherwood loading, ie can it handle the speakers.
