How gullible are you people? "BBS" hit? Billie Piper a star in America? She's no Hugh Laurie. She's barely an actress.

I think Billie is a good actress, I have seen her act in more than Doctor Who, you most probably haven't, comng from Trailer Park Boys country.

The Sci-Fi channel shows it in the US. Delayed though. The UK version is probably a bit too quirky for the Americans.

I think a good US team would be Jim Carrey or Mike Myers as the Doctor and Scarlett Johansson as his beautiful assistant. I think the Canadian actors would probably get more of the British spirit in it. In fact Mike Myers is half British anyway.

I love the way we import their shows and it works most of the time, Then They take our shows and make it quaint and rubbish, commercialised shell of itself.

The OP, Wayne814, created a thread about the story and quoted the report, expressing no skepticism at all.

ben93 said "Oh dear" before recalling that the report is in a paper little better than fish wrap.

Eaglestriker made a joking LOM reference but still decried "American copying," when someone who didn't believe the report would more likely be decrying the idiotic "journalism" that passed off nonsense as a real story.

Only donna255 seemed to call the report outright rubbish. dtr TV expert only expressed "doubt," which is a rather mild response to the dumbest thing I have heard reported in a newspaper in a while.

I don't believe in it, the same way I didn't believe in a so-called announcement of a US re-making of Life on Mars. Then that proved to be true, so the credibility in this sort of increases a little.

Still don't think it'd happen though.

It also airs on BBC America but not everyone gets that channel here.



Not true at all. There are tons of quirky U.S. made programs on American TV. I think we can handle a bit of Brit quirkiness as well.

A fishwrap paper didn't announce the US LOM project. The initial LOM story specified the American network doing the project, ABC, and the producer, David E. Kelley. And the report certainly didn't include some "anonymous," but no doubt non-existent, "TV insider" gushing about a marginally-talented British actress becoming a "superstar" in America. And then there is the whole Hugh Jackman thing. I mean, why not just say Hugh Grant? And maybe Liz Hurley could join Billie Piper as a second companion.

I can't see it happening but I'd like to see a full blown series featuring "the missing years" and starring Paul McGann. It would need a lot better script than the 1996 TVM though. Not sure how Billie Piper could feature for continuity reasons though.

Hugh Jackman is a busy actor, he will begin filming Australia, a new film with Nicole Kidman, this month and a few more films are in the pipeline, none of which are Doctor Who related, so even if this was true, Hugh Jackman wouldn't be in it.

The American’s could not do this without the agreement of the BBC.

I quite agree, he's also a movie star now and would probably see TV as a step down. The money would have to match film star wages.
I wonder if the US would consider a series of TVM's, perhaps featuring DT and BP. They could be based on some of the novels that take place outside of the series we've seen so far. I always thought The Stone Rose, for example, would make a good episode or TVM. Here's some dreaming for you, if they were made with USTV money and were a success, perhaps we'd see major financial backing for a Time War movie/mini series.

I would. The 1996 movie was aimed at US tv and it went down like a lead balloon there.

To be fair, the TV Movie was a garbled mess. The scene where the Doctor regains his memory and starts gabbling about Daleks and the Master sums up the whole film nicely.

Just compare the TVM's tacky explanation of the TARDIS's appearance and dimensions with the one given in Rose. Then compare its long-winded explanation of regeneration with the couple of lines used in Parting of the Ways.

It's hardly surprising that Americans didn't want a weekly dose of convoluted continuity, borrowed from a defunct British series shown on PBS.

I could see this working, she searches out for the Doctor there, and instead of choosing to travel to Britain a lot, in this universe he chosen the states and why he will have an American accent.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. Have you seen Ruby in the Smoke? Have you seen her West End show?
