"Hit me with your rhythm stick" by Ian Dury and The Blockheads. I bought it from Rumbelows (sp), an electrical retailer, back in the days before you had high street music shops.

My first album was by The Police, possibly "Regetta de Blanc".

I bought "October" and "War" by U2 on tape with the John Menzies vouchers I got for Christmas '88. The first LP I bought was "Isn't Anything" by My Bloody Valentine and I can't be sure but I think the first CD I bough was "Loveless" also by My Bloody Valentine. The first SP I bought was "Lullaby" by The Cure (limited edition pink vinyl), the first EP was "Plane Crash" by The Inspiral carpets and the first CD Single was "You're One" by Imperial Teen. I don't think I've ever bought a cassette single.

This may seem like a stupendous feat of memory but, in fact, I've never bought that much music due to a propensity for spending all my cash on drink and cigarettes. Shame really, because reviewing that list it appears, to me anyway, that I might have halfway decent taste.

I thought you were nearer Leslie Phillips age (you work it out )

Any one remember EPs? I bought Hard Days Night as my first, and could've been my last. 4 tracks from the film, cos I couldn't afford the whole album. It took 2 weeks pocket money to afford a single (I only got 3 shillings a week, ah the good old days)

I will be honest. The first record I bought was "Say you'll be there" by the Spice Girls

I hang my head in shame, but have grown up since.

I can't remeber which one came out first but it was either "Missing" by Everything but the girl, or "Cotton Eye Joe" by Rednex!
