Down since yesterday.

Bit of a joke.

"We are experiencing technical difficulties.

Please ring Customer Services"

Customer Services is closed of course.

Freeserve dial-up still works. Sigh.

I suffered with this too. Customer service are hopeless.

first call (8pm saturday night): The engineers are working on it now, should be fixed in three hours. If it's not, give us a ring in the morning. - Great faith in your engineers Tiscali!

Second call (10am Sunday morning): There's a problem with two exchanges. They don't know what's wrong. They're fixing it now. Should be fixed soon.

It still wasn't fixed this morning. Over 24 hours without internet or TV. What exactly do they expect people to do? I'll tell you what they will do - leave, and without much hesitation. The least they could do is be honest with people when they call up (at their own cost) to see what's wrong.

Back on this evening. Eastenders broadcasting with sound but just a "Radio" logo screen.

So is BT video on demand a good alternative ?

get a freeview box, at least then your pretty much guaranteed trouble free issues. seems they are all as bad as eachother, funny how freeview is free yet provides the best service.. ah well such is life

Freeview is not free - it is paid for by the consortium owners, parts of which is your license fee.

The fact is that Freeview is a single direction radio broadcast - there are no large area networks to worry about and engineers can't make changes to your connection so it will be more reliable - but it doesn't provide VOD, a decent selection of pay TV, Broadband, Phone calls etc.

Horses for courses - Freeview and HC are different beasts.
