What's a Dalek without the armour? With the armour they have shielding, weapons and are pretty much unstopable... Without and they look to be completely open to any sort of attack - guns, knives, baseball bats (been done, I know!), chemicals...

It will be interesting to see how the menace is portrayed now!

I would imagine that this is just a way to harvest more daleks - with the irrationality of the human mind - to enable them to beat the humans.

What if it isn't a dalek - human hybrid, but a dalek - time lord hybrid?

I doubt very much it'll be more powerful than a dalek. It'll be a means to an end which will be revealed in the story.

No, it was being locked in a room with one single Dalek, unstoppable, lethal, single-minded, no reasoning with it AND with no way of escape .

He can't, he's got no nose. And frankly it's a bit inconsiderate of you to draw attention to his disability on a public forum like this.

I've often wondered why the daleks are so reluctant to fire in those circumstances....

Actually, he reminds me of a modern day version of Scaroth from City Of Death.

I wonder if by any chance they are related?

I just wanna know how hybrid (result of mixing elements) managed to get mis-typed as Hydroid (an underwater vehicle).

I demand to see a Dalek submarine.

A dalek in a pin-stripe suit. If you live long enough, you`ll see everything.

There was talk of an assignation between Sec's grandmother and Scaroth's great uncle involving a bicycle pump and a turkey baster but you can't trust village gossip.

Does anyone else think the Daleks have been used too much, yet strangely under-valued too?

I am bored to death of Daleks, but that picture has revitalised me.

It looks HORRIBLE, and will scare the kids (and adults) under the carpet in a way that will last for much longer than zillions of CGI Daleks flying over London. I had no real enthusiasm for the Dalek 2-parter coming up, but am now much more eager!

The new series' Daleks are indestructible. This means that can only be defeated by quasi-religious options. This is a major cop-out. At the end of series one, Rose became God, and got rid of them. At the end of series two, the Doctor sent them into Hell, and got rid of them. There's no use in having a baddie that cannot be destroyed, as it gives little breathing-room for the story.

A semi-human Dalek gives plenty more opportunity for imagination and scares. Hopefully indestructible no more!

No, that was Neebor, the shape changing galactic criminal that escaped to Earth and took the form known as Adolf Hitler.

No, I'm fairly sure it was a turkey baster, the fuhrer was entirely the wrong shape for the job in hand - or rather in tentacle.

I think that the idea of a dalek-human hybrid is fantastic. As someone has opointed out, it will add the emotions, the irrational element of a human mind.

Remember that the Cult of Skaro were charged with finding new ways of winning the war, to prevent stalemate, to eventually lead the Daleks to victory. I really like the premise here.

I also think that this story has one really good thing about it. In no way am I RTD bashing, because I quite like his episodes, but Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks is not written by RTD. Perhaps we'll get away from his desire to have lots of Daleks around and get back to a more psychological, dark element of a Dalek stroy. 'Dalek' wasn't written by RTD either. I think it will be good to see a different take on the Daleks.

I'm also a little worried that the Daleks now pretty much look like yet another alien race: humanoid, with a rubber mask...is that unfair of me? I'm sure (well, very hopeful) that the story will change my mind: certainly, it's an interesting idea.

Brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favourite nyings”

I don't know why they bothered.

The Daleks were originally created by Davros since the Kaled race were effectively de-evolving.

Further during the Dalek Invasion of the Earth they used Robomen. Now being turned into a Roboman is far more scary than some monster which looks like it should be in the original Version of the Fly!
