psp wireless query
kate36
17-04-2007
sold my psp the other day but forgot to delete the WEP details on it..remembered to tell the guy in the shop and he said not to worry they would delete it all off for every machine they buy ...
it never worked for me anyway, wouldn't accept the wep code do you think anyone else will be able to access my wireless account?
a bit worried but i've unplugged my livebox [got orange wireless broadband]

They'd need to be rather close to your house anyway! Do you know how to change your wep?

no, can i do that?

i've turned the livebox off for now, ie unplugged it until i felt confident or got some more satisfactory answers...you see it's such along time since i tried to connect the psp wirelessly, i honestly cannot remember what info is on there but i'm pretty sure it asked me for a wep key..in which case would that info still be on it?
suppose the worst case scenario happened and someone did connect wirelessly, would they be able to hack into my laptop ie secure info?

You should be able to! It's just a question of whether you want to! Wait a while, For someone to get onto your wifi, they'd need to be near it. They cant just get onto your internet from any PC.

thanks for posting anyway, i will keep an eye on it..the techie chap at orange thought it would be unlikely ie i had no success accessing wireless via psp so he thought it would be unlikely that anyone else would. The guy in the shop where i sold the psp said they check all machines for such stuff anyway and clear it off. hopefully i have little or nothing to worry about but you do hear some horror stories so i thought best to check it out

Nothing should happen to it. Do you use it for the internet then? I say just turn it on. A WEP Key means nothing without the wifi network it's associted with.

Indeed, and anyway, you can just change the wep key or block the PSP's MAC address (if you need to clear all the MACs to do that, then fine) in the router config.

They have to know where you live and be bothered enough about hijacking your wifi on a PSP to do it. As if...

(Not back at school yet?)

Nope. We started a week behind everyone else, because of Jesus

Well, when everyone else had the week off, we stayed at school because of "Holy Week" etc. We had one 15Minute, well you couldnt even call it a mass! That's it.

Suppose so. Go to a catholic school and the like, but the last time I went to a church properly (I.e not a wedding/christening) was in year 6! And that was for my conformation. Bit lapsed then.
