Light User Scheme is only available to certain customers, usually customers with low income or who do not use the phone very much.

It can be supplied to new and existing customers but there is a criteria that has to be met first of all. These questions will be asked when you first apply for service. If you dont meet the criteria you will have no option but to go onto bt together options.

Light User Scheme is not available for anyone with broadband or if you are wanting broadband. Also it is soon to be removed from supply as the service is been replaced by a new service.

LUS is also not available to those who use other phone providers, such as a mobile, cable phone or try and route calls via cheap call providers.

Back in the day, it was a good idea for those who didn't use the phone much, or for those who used it mainly for incoming calls.

Now, considering the number of restrictions, you're better off disconnecting and getting a PAYG mobile.

It is going to be withdrawn and replaced by BT Basic soon anyway.

I'm on Light User at home, quaretly calls are never any more than a few quid.

Going through their Terms and Conditions a few months ago, I've broken at least 10 in the years i've had it, and currently breaking quite a few. Inc the one which says no Broadband.......

IMO its their fault, I ordered ADSL in 2001 with BT and no one ever suggested it needed to be changed.

I have been following this thread for a couple of days, and now someone has confirmed that I am not the only one to have retained my light user scheme and have broadband as well.

BT now have a new team of workers who will be tracking anyone on In contact Plus and Light User Scheme before new BT Basic is launched.

This is to make sure there are people not on this tariff who should not be on it as they have found various loop holes thats allowing people to be on these services when they should not be on. So I dont think it will be long now before they click on that your on something that ya should not be.

Yes understood, but BT encouraged me, knowing that I was on Broadband BT, and when I asked numerous times if it was correct the answer was yes.

BT encouraged you to have LUS when you had ADSL?!?!?!?!?

I struggle to believe that one.

It will all change soon when letters from DWP are required!!!!

as a sales advisor at BT we dont even promote this service, its reactive meaning they have to ask for it by name and also qualify for it too.

I think I've sold this twice in 3 years.

If I were to order broadband it would block the order straight away if they have lus or in contact or the new bt basic

Well I have just received my BT Light User Statement, which is dated29/04/2007, my package/line rental fees are as normal with my usual credits deducted from my bill, and this takes me up to 30 June with no notification of any change.

BT send me a flyer with my bills advising me to join LUS as I hardly make any calls. I phone BT to take up THEIR offer only to be told I can't have it as I have a broadband line.

I have yet to find out why they keep sending me the invites.
