Unfortunately for me i have to work sat evenings so i V+ it and watch it as soon as i get home. If you've got teleport then you should be able to catch it again.

Hopefully someone will put it on youtube

Loved him tonight. So much better when he gets a half decent song. Its between him and Lee for the role of Joseph in my opinion. I would love to see them both there at the end. Hope Daniel gets a ballad next week.

Ah yes. Though when he sings it it sounds more 'musical' - in my senility I thought it was from another show! Well

Wouldn't it be awful if they limited the number of times you could see a particular YouTube video.

Basically they pick the best shows during a certain day and store them for a week. Its mainly BBC1, Channel 4 and a few other cable channels. And you can watch them whenever you want during that week.

I also have V+ which is similar to Sky + but it sometimes stops recording before the show is over, which is a pain in the arse! . But at least i had the option of watching it on teleport, otherwise i would have missed the drama queen at the end!

What is that song he sang in week 1??

I don't really care even if the rumours are true. After all John Barryman likes the boys but that doesn't seem to stop women lusting after him.

Must admit that i didnt know he was gay till this show. I've only really heard of him in Dr Who and i definately had a few lustfull moments watching him then

It definately wont stop me having lustfull moments about Daniel if the rumours are true , and i'd still love to see him on stage if he wins

She needs to work on her own tin can of a voice and remember the saying "Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

Sorry but I think you should consider sueing whoever taught you those basic theories completely incorrectly.
Notice I mentioned Bel Canto. I did have lessons for a few years, and it's really, really hard to sing well. Unfortunately, in the rush for fame and glamour, too many people skip getting their voices to a place that make them really stand out above the competition.

The lazy vibrato at the end of a phrase (and I mean great bit hoops of it, not the natural slight wobble), and that snatching of half-spoken words, is the oldest trick in the book when you can't actually sing it, because either you're out of breath, or you used it up too quickly because of poor control.

I think musical singing could be greatly improved if people sung more and stopped gurning vocally. They used to manage it. I don't know why they can't now.

I think Daniel comes the closest out of all of them to a really good technique. I hope he wins as he's really got something.

Or Will Young for that matter.

Firstly, to refer to the light and shade in Daniel's voice as half-shouting instead of singing is ludicrous. He has clearly the most powerful voice among the contestants whoever someone's favourite may or may not be. I doubt very much any of the others could have carried off SYBG.

Secondly, I don't know where this often misquoted idea that vibrato shows poor breath control has come from. I can only imagine that it's because people are so used these days to hearing so many singers who sing each note plain and straight, with no texture or variation, and with (blatantly) untrained voices and proud of it.

Vibrato is a taught technique, designed to protect the vocal chords, and some singers, even after years of training, cannot achieve it.
Yes, I do have musical training, thanks, and from quite a well-known opera coach, including the exams on piano as did most middle-class kids. That was in the 1980s when I wanted to do something different with my life. Unfortunately, after years of lessons (piano and voice) I couldn't be arsed to be mediocre in a world where to shine you do have to be really amazing. That said, I did learn how to sing, and learn what makes a good and a bad voice (and did the holding of the candle to your mouth and not to extinguish it while singing), how to manufacture sound, and most of all, how to control the natural vibrato that comes from weak technique. I would get severe reprimand if I wavered at the end of phrases. While you can't help it sometimes, and, yes, the music does call for it, it's not necessary all the time, and when that's ALL you hear, as is so often the case, then it's just blimmin' awful.

I'm not disputing that Daniel doesn't have a powerful voice - he does. And it's a fine instrument. However, there is a tendency in all musical singing to do that half-speaking, half-singing thing which is, to me, horribly ugly, and singers who are tired noticably do it more because it's easier. I know it's comparing apples with oranges, but you couldn't sing the final act of Tosca half speaking it. That's the sort of standard I'm thinking of. And I reiterate, musicals are not opera, although I do think perhaps some opera singers should sing musicals (apart from Gwyneth Jones who absolutely murdered "Memory" from Cats, but who is beyond sublime in Wagnerian roles).

If singers can't obtain vibrato, then I would question their ability. Like I say, controlled vibrato is needed, otherwise you'll sound like a reedy choirboy, but the wah-wah-wah sound some of these singers produce IS because of laziness and poor training.

This is the wrong thread for me because personally I think he has the personality of a goldfish.

And for all those people who have remarked on other threads that when they go to the theatre they do not care about the preformers personalities, why are you watching then?

I still believe we have yet to see the best from Daniel. He needs some great ballads and theatre songs to really show what he is capable of. He has been excellent so far with the songs he has to work with though but anyone who has visited his MySpace site knows what he can do with some great songs.

I care very much about their performance, not their own personal qualities. It is more important to me that a performer can convey what is necessary for the character they are playing- they may or may not actually be like that in real life, it doesn't matter.

Yes, you're right, this is the wrong thread for you because you don't appear to be talking about Daniel.

How about for something as radical as their singing and performance abilities? Can you contemplate that idea? I wouldn't want to tax your brain cell too much.

Quick question for my fellow dan fans I have to admit to being a musical newbie and havent seen many of the big productions, although i did see Joseph when Phil Schofield was playing the lead.

But i'm listening to his recordings on myspace and just wanted to know which musicals they come from. Apart of course from Maria,(even i could work out that one ) , If your not the one, and You give me something.

Cheers

Really hoping that Daniel gets to sing a great musical ballad this week or is only Lee allowed the ballads from now on?
