Help downloading files to MP3 player

Can anyone help me? I've not yet got into the MP3 world but I have bought myself a cheap MP3 player to give it a try. I've installed the driver from the CD that came with the player and I've gone through the new hardware wizard...

What do I do next - how do I download files from my hard drive to my MP3 player? Do I need software? Should I be able to play music through Windows Media (I have XP)? I can't find Windows Media on my PC anymore!

I think the problem might be that I have been using a BT Voyager DMP to play the music files on my PC and when I click on a file in "my music", the Voyager launches and the music starts to play through the Voyager. The Voyager icon also shows on all my music files.

What am I doing wrong?

Help! I'm a bit lost!

If your player is set up properly, it should appear as an additional drive on your PC. You can then use My Computer to open this drive in one window. In another My Computer window, find the folders on your hard drive that contain the music files (normally *.MP3 or *.WMA). You can then drag and drop tracks across to the player. You player should also play whole albums, which are stored on the hard drive as folders.

If you can't find your music files, it may be that your music software hides them somehow. You'll need to find an expert on it to help with that.

Thanks for replying. Where do I look to see if the new drive has been installed properly?

In My Computer - it'll appear as something like "H: Removable Drive". (Assuming you have Windows XP).

Don't think it's there then. I've got FLOPPY A, CD-RW R & AUDIO Q - AUDIO Q wouldn't be it would it?

Should I try installing the software again?

Oh oops - might help if I plug the player in eh?! Now I've done that a REMOVEABLE DRIVE D & E have appeared! Should there be two?

When I double click on D I get a blank page and when I double click on E I'm asked to insert a disk.

I can't seem to open a second window in my computer.

Can you make any sense of this?

Don't worry - I've done it! It was D and I right clicked on the file and sent it to D!

Thanks for your help!

Has your player got a memory card slot? That would be the second drive letter.
