Has anyone any comment on connecting an IPOD to your tv? Is the picture quality as you would expect from digital? Are there any associated problems?

Digital what? Digital isn't a set quality or size. It doesn't support HD so if you plug it into an HD TV you'll be disappointed.

Never mind HD!

The iPod can only play fairly low resolution video files so even on a normal TV, it'll look OK at best.

VCD/SVCD (assuming you're familiar with them) is a reasonable comparison.

Don't get me wrong, it's watchable .... but it's not going to look anywhere near as good as a DVD.

I agree, it's compressed stuff on iPod, unless it's a mega big file with very high res I don't think you will see much good quality but you might want to use it for music which is probably ok through the speakers.

i wouldn’t bother- i purchased a £30 dock that sat next to my LCD tv for listening to music and video. The Video Playback quality is poor even with widescreen high (ipod) res files. Unless you pay for an expensive dock there is no on screen display output to view what your selecting either.
If you want to seriously view your ITunes files and videos on your TV properly then go for the iTV box from apple- but again your limited to apple formats - HD is available though.

That was my point, you can't just call something digital and have an expectation (high or low) bacause it is digital.

I've watch a few thing on tv via the ipod and haven't found it too bad as long as the TV isn't too big - it's not something I'd do on a regular basis but comes in handy for me when we rent a cottage in the country for our holiday and you can only get 3 or the 5 terristrial channels - I just load the ipod up with copies of our fav films etc and then we've got loads to watch

I've watched a few things on TV via the official Apple cable.
It's about VHS quality. For example, the blacks aren't always crisp.
But there's no lag and it's perfectly acceptable for what I do with it.
