Looking for 42" HD tele, recommendations?
Hi,
I have around £950 to spend on a 40 - 42" TV, I need to be able to connect it to my amplifer (output) my dvd player, console and also to a PC via VGA, but this needs to have the 1366x768 res, I'm looking for something with good sound and picture for a reasonable price (upto £950 but less if possible) I found this TV.. LG 42LC3R for £699 inc p&p which seems ok (I heard LG are good) although I just bought a 40" Hyundai on ebuyer but went faulty within 2 weeks.. Hyundai Q400 spec was a good tv until then but now ebuyer have discontinued that tv so in need for something newer with pretty much same spec as the Q400 (must play multiregion dvds NTSC.) Any Suggestions? I need to find something suitable so I can order it on monday - tuesday (when I get my money refunded for the other TV mentioned previously.) |

Panasonic 70 series (Black) is £950 in John Lewis with a 5 year guarantee.
The 600 (Silver) series is not much more (the 700 series (black) is not out yet). The difference between 600/700 and 60/70 series is that the '00 series has better speakers and SD card record and playback facility. Panasonic - the best, and Plasma better than LCD!! That will upset the Sony / LCD guys !! And no doubt start yet another - my set is better than your set thread

I agree with sircrump, the Panasonic 70 series is an absolute bargain. I have not seen it action, but the 60 series was excellent, so I am sure the 70 is at least as good. The 70 also looks better.
I actually own the Pioneer 427xd plasma, but this is a little above the 950 budget. I think the Pioneer and the Panasonic really are the best in the 950 - 1300 price range. I think you need to spend a lot more on a comparable LCD, especially for good SD input handling. I looked at the Sony X series Bravia EX when choosing a TV, but the Pioneer just seemed to handle SD programs better. I am constantly amazed by how good my plasma looks with both HD and SD inputs. NB: if you have a Sony X series LCD and love it, that is great and I am pleased for you. Each to their own and I am only going on personal taste. Like sircrump, I am not knocking anyone else's choice. |

I really like the new Samsung Plasmas with 15:000:1 contrast ratio.
Do not go for an LCD the colours are so washed out! |

I have a Panasonic 42PX70 plasma and its amazine - but Ill come clean and say that LCD isnt very good for sport as the ball and screen smears when watching football and such.
Plasma has far better 'black' colours then LCD. |

are there plasma tv's that can be used as PC monitors? and I mean a 1366x768 resolution?
I have a friend says Plasmas "resolution is lower and they die" and that "the quality is terrible in comparison." since I'm using the TV has a PC monitor as well it needs to be able to have a 1366x768 resolution. I've currently seen an TV (Samsung LE40N73B 40" LCD TV) that will work as what I want it to with my PC, but I'm a big movie watcher so I'm hoping this LCD will display well. |

hd test gave this set has a rave review and they highly recommend it
http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/Samsung-LE40M86BD/ so although a little dearer (dixon's price £1,074.99) for movie buffs, it would seem it is worth it http://www.dixons.co.uk/product.php?...camp_id=kelkoo |
