Doctor Who Scariest Villains

Has anyone seen this article?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6574753.stm

According to this, these are the top 10 scariest Doctor Who villains:

1. The Daleks
2. The Empty Child Zombies
3. The Beast
4. The Cybermen
5. The Clockwork Droids
6. The Ood
7. The Empress of Racnoss
8. The Werewolf
9. The Autons/Nestenes
10. Chloe's Dad

Stop me if I'm wrong, but haven't all of these appeared in the new series? Where are the villains from the classic series?

I hate these sort of polls, because they only even end up asking kids who have no concept of anything outside of what's new. Last year they did a similar poll of the best Doctors- and guess who came on top. David Tennant. Yes, he's good, but the best? He hadn't even been in the show long enough to really prove himself anyway.

You can be sure if the Daleks & Cybermen hadn't been in the new series, they wouldn't be on this list (or would be lower ranked). It's like when they do "best band ever" and someone crap and forgettable like McFly end up topping the list, or "best ever song" and the list is populated with recent hits which will most likely be forgotten in a few years time.

So, anyway, who are your favourite villains, past & present? I have to vote The Master (nowhere to be seen on that list).

That is the trouble with these polls. They are often short lived which is why you get Oasis are the best band ever (really?, bring back Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band).

Personally I would have put the Autons a lot closer to the top of the list, they were the one DW monster which gave me nightmares.

The Master, yes, but the Empty Child zombies as well for me (and the Daleks).

My personal scariest are:

The original Auton shop dummies
The giant spiders in The Planet of the Spiders
The giant maggots in The Ark in Space
...and the glowing green disease on UNIT soldiers' faces in the Jon Pertwee era...

I voted on this. You were specifically only asked for the new series. I thought it was fair enough - the new kiddie fans would be laregely ignorant of what went before and if more of them vote than us vets then it would be even more skewed.

I suppose it depends on your age - for me it would be the Autons as I was only 7ish years old 1st time round - it used to freak me out going round Alders at that time!

I would say anything that absorbs living people would have to be tops for me - so that would be the Cybermen.

I would of put Cyberman last they are just not scary, as for daleks hmm touch and go, I don't mind them walking up stairs (aka sylvestor mccoy years) but not flying.

I originally thought you meant the Voc Robots, but burns masks sound more like early cybermen.

I don't wish to appear rude but do you not think this post should be in the Dr Who Forum oops I mean the Cult Forum where all the other Dr Who threads are?

It's bad enough having to wade through 20 Dr Who threads trying to find something interesting to read in Cult without finding one here now.

Only one Dr Who episode ever gave nightmares as a child, I think it was a Tom Baker episode and it was about some people trapped in a maze with a minotaur, so, for me, that was my scariest Dr Who monster. Of the new series, the gas mask zombie people were very creepy

I'd say the empty child zombies. They are the only one on that list that actually sent shivers up my spine. Though the daleks can be quite scary too. Think it's the voice

As an adult, I found the empty child zombies very disturbing, as a child it was the daleks
