Lets hope the BBC see sense and choose the celebs wisely not turn it into a circus. If they dont then they may loose the support of the pros for whom this is their profession and dont want it dummed down.

The BBC were warned that they would only get professionals to take part if they took it seriously and didnt make it into a farce. Their consultant at the start was John Byrnes and he took it all very seriously to make sure that it was the success it has proved to be.

I couldnt agree more Elizabethjo.........the odd 'character' is probably ok, but the danger with certain 'celebs' is that it might turn into a 3 ring circus. it has always been interesting to see competitors realise the need to take it as seriously as their professional partners and commit to the entire experience with determination and humour.

i'm with footygirl for Steve Davis too

Unfortunately there too many celebs being suggested in the press: Heather Mills, Jordan (unless it they mean Ola and James ) her silly husband and for me the worst of all Richard and Judy - those two make my teeth itch - anyway I am hoping it is all a ploy by the BBC to keep SCD in the press

well here is a real tenuous link - but stick with me on this - my sporting idol is Bjorn Borg - I just love tennis - and as a little girl I was an ardent Abba fan (still am ) so Borg ticked all the boxes - anyway I will get to the point  I read an interview with Steve who cited Borg as his idol because he always kept his cool and some people thought it was because he didn't care - Steve related to this and followed his career as he felt that both he and Borg were misunderstood

taxi for me

Steve has always reminded me of Bjorn Borg, the ice cool professional, who is the architypal good guy who you can relate to.

Just like Bjorn Steve's sportsmanship is exemplary.

Wonder if he likes Abba too

I like tennis as well. Used to like Bjorn Borg too, but loved Stefan Edberg. As for the ladies I admired Chris Evert.

I had a soft spot for Monica Seles too, she went through a lot and you couldn't help but like her.

Lucky you getting Wimbledon tickets

Have you read the book entitled The Rivals - about Chris and Martina? Brilliant - I was a Chris fan - as for Monica poor love - she had a lot of sadness - but she was always dignified - I loved the Becker ( please do SCD) and Edberg finals

I remember the Chris/Martina rivalry well. I remember the French final from 1985 where Chrissie came from 0-40 down at 5-5 in the final set to win the title.

It's funny, I've always related to the supercool person and not the hothead

I think Borg and McEnroe was a perfect rivarly - but I never understood that if John was so passionate hence his outbursts etc how come he never did that against Borg??? It is nice that they have remained such good firends as have Chris and Martina

John knew his tantrums wouldn't work with Bjorn, Bjorn was in a world of his own when he played. Plus I think that John revered Bjorn and didn't want to let himself down in Bjorn's eyes

Hi footygirl

I have read John's book Serious which I loved and disliked in equal measure - if that makes sense. Certainly what you say would concur with what he has written. He has enourmous respect for Borg. He clearly did not have the same respect for Conners or Lendl - fascinating to watch their matches! Hope Steve does well today Parrot leads him 6-3 - so come on Steve

I believe Steve is going to be playing a frame of snooker with Dermot Murnaghan and Chris De Burgh. So there is plenty of time to swoon over Steve
