My daughter loves a song on Youtube. Unfortunately it is not available on a CD etc. Is there getting the tune on to her MP3 player or iPod?

I am an absolute computer moron so cant help but she said "mums are supposed to know things" and now I feel like a bad mother!

any help appreciated.

You could be slightly shady and download a program called Audacity and use that to record the audio as you play the Youtube file.

Bit long winded but should work!

1. you need to download the youtube video to your computer, you can use this free online flv converter, just have to copy the youtube video URL, very easy to use.

Here is a guide about it

2. after you finish the conversion, then use Video to iPod Converter, this software can extract audio signal from video to MP3 format, so your daughter can put it on iPod, here is a guide about the software, hope it helps.

jaxdia's method is much quicker and simpler and more universal. You use Audacity which is a free audio program to record the sound live as she plays the youtube video. She can then save the this new audio file as an mp3 file
which can be played back by any mp3 player includign iPods.

drcshine's method may well work but a lot more hassle involved. There's a lot of songs released which are unnofficial/not released by record labels, particularly novelty songs people have recorded at home which are often available on P2P networks (and these songs are legally available for download as opposed to the other ones) so it may be worth having a search on there. But the audacity method is quite painless and quick. You will also need to download the LAME mp3 encoder to make audcaity save files as mp3s.

A great big thank you to both posters. We have used both methods so that my daughter can figure out what one is easier for her to use.

She sends hugs and kisses as a thanks. (If that's not kind of iffy from a small child)
