I have just read in the free London Newspaper 'London Lite' that Jason Donavon really wants to play the Doctor. How odd. He would be an interesting choice for the role but I think this story coming hot on the heels of his former co star being in the Christmas episode means it's a little odd..

There is a world of difference between someone wanting to play the Doctor, and someone being considered to play the Doctor. Not least the fact that the former is an aspiration (or possibly "flying a kite"), the latter is at the behest of the BBC/producers.

There's too many broken hearts in this world for Donovan to make it worse by becoming the 11th Doctor.

I agree with you. I just thought it an interesting and light hearted piece of news to share with everyone. I don't think for one minuate he would ever play the Doctor and because he is such a strange choice I really don't know whether he would be any good, though I suspect not...

bit like Kylie appearing in Who. just a gimmick or would she add something to the show that someone else couldn't?

Only if she appeared in a cameo role similar to the one that Barbara Windsor had.

My take on it is that JD's career went down the tubes some time ago, and he now realises that any additional chance of success is fast disappearing. Perhaps this was a last-ditch attempt to drum up some work by increasing his profile?

not suggesting there is any truth to the story in the scabloids but are they not saying the part she is being considered for is the guest lead?

Maybe, but knowing what the papers are like, I have steered clear of any of the reports.

If it's a lead role, then ......

I can understand them wanting to attract high profile names to the series and they have gone for people in the past who are flavour of the month but would casting Kylie be a good move for the series or just a publicity gimmick.

Two interesting comments on "Earthshock" perhaps relevant to a couple of topics going today. If I recall, one has Peter Davison commenting that John Nathan-Turner would put celebrity above acting ability, often to the detriment of the show. The other has Mark Gatiss commenting on the respectful silent end-titles after Adric's death, and saying that doing something like that now, and they'd be squeezed to the side and spoken over, just to tell us what's on next.

We've had two shit Christmas episodes, and as much as I like Kylie, a third duffer (just because it's Christmas) wouldn't surprise me.

There was a few times in series 2, in which I thought the Doctor and Rose might break into a vomit inducing version of "Especially For You". Just imagine it;
"No more dreaming about tomorrow, forget the Cybermen and the sorrow, I'm gonna beat the daleks just for you oooh"

Don't speak so soon - I have reason to believe "Doctor Who - The Musical" is just around the corner!

RTD loves Buffy and they did a musical episode so don't tempt fate!

Not fate, mate. It's destiny!

Can see it now... Springtime... for Davros... not Gallifrey...

Peter Kay could return just to add that touch of realism.

First Kylie, now Jason...

...we'll probably end up with Harold Bishop as the Doctor, Madge as assistant...

..and Paul Robinson as the Master (or would that be Davros?).

...Especially For Who...

Course, he could wear Colin Baker's Amazing Technicolour Dr Who coat...

I remember hearing those comments too. I also remember that the more celebs the more crap the story seemed to be. Shelia Hancock, Hale and Pace etc. Maybe we should be wary of having to many well known people in the show. There are loads of new acting talent out there waiting for their big breaks. I like Kylie too I have to admit and have bopped to many of her songs but she wont mix with Who.
The producers need to concentrate on the native and then select the best actor to fill that role whether they are famous or not.

I think Kylie would be great for the Christmas Show.
The serious fans need to remember that there are probably not enough of them to keep the show going without the added casual or less devoted ones to keep the ratings up.
It will always be a meeting of cult appeal and mass audience appeal and Kylie would get the viewing figures up for sure. There has to be a percentage of viewers last year who tuned in to see what Catherine Tate was doing and that works in the shows favour in the longer term.
Its the story that needs to be right really.

I think to be honest most B List and below actors would love to be in Doctor Who as it has been a roaring success...

Oh no, don't put ideas into RTD's head. He's probably trying to think of something to do for Children In Need this year
I can see it being covered by DT and FA as a charity single
NO!!!NO!!NO!!
I'd rather "Doctor in Distress" was re-released LOL
