Hey guys,

Just checking in as I haven't been on DS for a while. What an amazing and very intense couple of weeks it has been on the Square involving Dean and Linda. It has been so upsetting to see the effects of what Dean has done on Linda, very harrowing indeed to watch how what Dean has done has impacted Linda so much. I was hoping she would have told Elaine what had happened (a new character who I love by the way, hope she's back again and very soon if so!). But I was glad that Elaine sussed something was up, and warned Dean off (not that he really seemed to mind too much, smirking away). I'm sure that if the truth comes out, she will feel so guilty for assuming they were having an affair. But she had no way of knowing. I was really hoping Linda would open up to her, but she didn't, she won't open up to anyone, such is the massive effect of Dean's actions on her.

Matt and Kellie's acting have been superb, I really hope they win awards or are recognised for how fantastic their acting in portraying this storyline has been!

Something major has obviously happened to Dean, rubbing salt into the wounds by telling Linda and genuinely believing that what happened was some sort of secret affair and not rape! Has Dean convinced himself of this somehow so as not to face the reality of the terrible thing he has done? Matt has been portraying Dean's creepy delusion so well.

It was nice to see Matt in the Strictly audience supporting Jake Wood. I see Dean/Matt has taken to wearing his hat again in scenes, I can't decide if I like the hat or not!

Welcome to the thread.

I agree that Dean's barbaric crime has had a horrific impact, not just on Linda but on Mick as well and will rip the family apart when it is discovered. My heart has gone out to poor Linda and to Mick too over the past few weeks. I can understand Elaine assuming Linda and Dean had an affair at first as anyone would - even Sharon and Nancy did at one point. While it was disappointing that Linda didn't tell her mom the truth or contact the police/rape crisis straight away, I can understand why she didn't. Her situation is incredibly difficult given that her attacker is not merely someone she knows but another family member, moreover one she cared about before the rape.

Having said that, I don't hate Dean. It is difficult to tell whether Dean is avoiding the reality of what he has done or is genuinely delusional and thinks it was a consensual one night stand - I think that's open to interpretation. I lean towards the latter theory myself. I do agree though that something major has happened to Dean. I don't think Dean is evil - he hasn't shown any inclination to control or taunt Linda the way other soap rapists have and he began by seducing her before losing control rather than being violent to begin with. Dean needs psychiatric help. He needs to be made to understand what he has done and the effect it has had on his family. I am a little disappointed that he didn't have the sense to stay in the sitting room and get a grip on himself when he felt those feelings building up.

I agree that Matt and Kellie have acted this superbly and I can't wait for this week's episodes - particularly the upcoming Linda/Dean scene. As for the hat I don't mind it but think Dean looks better without it.

I agree, but that does mean that I feel unable to hate him.

What do we think the outcome will be? Do we think he will be found to be mentally unstable? However, I have the horrible feeling that Dean will just be made to leave the Square after being shunned by his family.

It doesn't sound as though DS Bryant is the only person following Lauren so I'm starting to worry that her stalker might be Dean. Though he wasn't actually violent with Lauren, he did react badly when she dumped him.

He lurked in the shadows when he first arrived but I don't remember him lurking around after he got the hair salon.

Yeh it was only the time we saw someone smoking looking at Shirley that I'm basing this on

6 and a half hours to go before we see the Dean/Linda scenes - can't wait. I also think Dean will be genuine with Stacey on Friday when she opens up to him.

I'm a bit confused. In the spoilers for today it said Dean wanted to "end things" with Linda so as not to hurt Mick but he never mentioned that in the actual episode. He just said that it would be good if they were friends and something about it being good if Linda gave Mick a cuddle (can't remember). He did seem slightly forceful with Stacey though when he showed her the spare room and flirted with her, but I can tell from the eyes that he's mentally unstable.

I agree, he is unstable!

Thanks Lizzie Oh yes, what Dean has done will rip the family apart when it's discovered. Poor Linda is basically just barely existing and going through the motions after what Dean has done, it's like she's just running on autopilot. She's a broken shell of a woman. And poor Mick doesn't know what's the matter with Linda, and why she;s so upset. I bet he's probably feeling that he's done something wrong. It must be so hard for Linda, when her attacker is someone who has ingratiated themselves within the family, who is basically a member of the family and who is always there. Anywhere she looks in the Vic, there he is, it seems.

I totally agree that Dean does not realise the massive implications of what he has done, and that he is delusional and genuinely thinks it was a one-night stand! He's never threatening Linda or sneering about the events of that night, he just seems genuinely oblivious to the ramifications and the graveness of what he actually did do! He does need psychiatric help, and I want him to be aware of the damage his actions that night has had on Linda.

Matt and Linda continue to amaze with their acting, I hope they are rewarded at the awards. They really deserve to be!

I also agree - Dean looks better without the hat!!
Agreed! It's quite a nice hat, but I prefer him without it. It appears that Stacey does do, as he didn't wear it around her last night (or maybe she took a dislike to the hat and hid it on him!) Wonder how things will progress between Stacey and Dean, and how Linda will react.

BIB - I agree.

Sadly I think we have to wait until Friday to see more development with Dean/Stacey.

In a way Dean had a point when he asked Linda to give Mick a cuddle and reassure him and ironically she ended up following his advice when she cuddled up to Mick on the sofa.
