What I wrote was me reading between the lines but if you read the actual spoilers - yes, Dean still thinks it was consensual. It's an interesting route to take as I've never heard of a delusional rapist before - both Finn O Connor and Frank Foster were flat out liars so this route makes a nice change.

I agree - I've never seen a storyline like this where the rapist doesn't think he's done anything wrong. I can't wait to see how the writers explain Dean mental state.

I found another Matt interview;
We see Dean and Stacey have grown close, what’s it been like working with Lacey Turner? “It’s been great. Lacey’s been awesome, she’s a really talented actress and she’s lots of fun to work with. We’ve known each other for a long time so we’ve got good banter and repertoire. It’s been really fun and I’m really glad to have worked with her.” Dean seems pretty smitten with Stacey, do you think he believes she is the one? “I think she’s probably the person he’s been most fond of in a long time. Obviously he’s got issues but his affections towards Stacey are genuine.” As our teasers reveal, Stacey ends things with Dean. How do you think he feels? “It’s a shock because he doesn’t really have any idea why she would end the relationship, it comes out of nowhere. He doesn’t get it. It’s all going great then she ends things.” When Dean spots Linda and Stacey talking, do you think he’s worried about what Linda is saying? “Possibly. Linda seems to be the only reason that he can work out why Stacey ended things…maybe Linda has said something to her about Dean.” In terms of the Linda and Dean story, do you think Dean genuinely believes what happened was consensual? “It’s kind of a deep-rooted psychological thing. I researched this with The London Probation Centre and it’s similar to when you have an argument with someone. You tell your side of the story and point out everything the other person did wrong. “After you’ve told that to three or four people, your side of the story keeps on getting a little more distant from the truth until you’re at a point where you think you’ve done nothing wrong and the other person is completely in the wrong. Is Dean jealous of Mick and Linda? “I think he’s jealous of Mick. Mick’s got a good life and that’s something which Dean doesn’t ever really think he could have for himself, so yeah there’s certainly jealousy towards Mick.” Dean’s got quite close to Mick over the past few months, how would you describe their relationship before all the bombshells drop? “Danny and I were talking about this the other day and if this storyline hadn’t happened, then you could see them having a good friendship. The characters are similar in certain ways and Danny and I enjoy working together. Obviously when all this comes out, it’s probably going to be the end of it.” We’ve obviously seen Dean meet his estranged father Buster, does he hope for a relationship with him? “It’s a weird one because he has only known him for a couple of hours. He got on fine without him so I don’t think he’s overly desperate to have a relationship with him but at the same time, if you didn’t know your dad and you finally meet him, you’ll want to get to know him. He’s definitely curious. How is Dean coping with the news about Stan? “He doesn’t really address it much but it’s a very difficult thing to deal with and he’s the closest to Stan in a way. Even though they’re not seen together very much, they were living together and that was the backstory of when Dean returned – that they were living together the whole time. They’ve got a good relationship and Dean finds it difficult to cope with.” What reaction have you got so far with the Linda and Dean storyline? “A lot people talk about it. People are really interested and it is an important story to tell. It has to be taken seriously. Dean’s still got an element of charm about him, which is messed up and people can’t quite get their head around it.” |

Thanks for that - very interesting. No clues as to what's going to happen in the aftermath with Dean though.

Is it just me or does it sound more and more like Dean is somehow going to be able to stay?
Although, I suppose we hardly know anything about the reveal and the aftermath... |

Although, I suppose we hardly know anything about the reveal and the aftermath... If he signed up for a year that'd mean he'd be working up to Feb '15 ( April '15 on screen) so it wouldn't be surprising if he hadn't left yet. However- Dean's success as a returnee, the obv fact that DTC likes him & the loss of so many of the young actors in EE in s short space of time makes it upper more likely he'd stay on. |

I feel similar- but I wonder if this is wishful thinking. The BBC DID say he'd leave at the conclusion of the rape story. But to me that'd be at Christmas & that's clearly not the case. Or it could be when the kid is born but that'd be May-June time after Matt's contract is up.

I hope Dean can stay. While I am curious to see both Stacey and Mick find out the truth, I'm somehow not looking forward to either of them giving Dean a hard time though he definitely deserves it, delusional or not.

Has anyone read the interview in Fabulous magazine? I can only see pictures on twitter. There are quotes like "I didn't want to play a rapist" and "Yeah I want to make it in America".

Didn't like the bit when he said he sold a story about Flavia & "bought a car" with it, esp as he's been quite private in the past. But I understand if you're in a v high profile relationship the pressure to "kiss & tell" must be immense. Just a personal thing for me- I don't really approve of that. |

![]() I've managed to read more up close pictures of the interview on twitter - re: the dodgy question - was that about if Dean could stay? I agree, I think Matt answered that really well. Obviously for him, the writers will be the ones answering that question. |

Obviously for him, the writers will be the ones answering that question. In my opinion Matt was wise not to answer. Whatever he could've said may well have been twisted by the Sun and could've caused controversy for EE & problems for him, esp as he is the face of the rape storyline. |

I was watching some Dean/Stacey clips. It's such a shame. Dean, Stacey and Lily could have been such a nice family unit if Dean hadn't attacked Linda.

VERY interesting! Matt has said that Dean has some emotional dialogue and a lot comes out. Could we finally be hearing things about his time in prison? |

Thanks for that Sez Babe.
I hope the "emotional dialogue" is in relation to Dean. The article doesn't make it very clear. I agree with Matt's quote; "Dean’s still got an element of charm about him, which is messed up and people can’t quite get their head around it." |

I personally think Dean will leave in Jan/Feb '15. Hes been filming up till recently, but I suspect hes off now till the new year (if he returns at all!)

I'm not sure - I'm still not certain that he's leaving....yet anyway. |

Yeh he was. I wonder what Deacey/Stean would have been like....
Someone pointed out on another thread how Dean's been all over the place this year - angry, hateful, charming, funny and creepy....I wonder if this is intentional? |

Going on Matt's recent interview (I can't remember which one) it seems as though he didn't know about the rape storyline before he signed his contract. Therefore, he may want to stay long term and so if it's down to him whether that happens, maybe he'll stay?
