I cant really figure what this means given

Seems to me though that the storyline is wrapping up and I think we could be saying bye to Dean during or a couple of weeks before the live episode.

Personally if that is the case, I'm glad I think it's time.

Maybe...would they really make Dean's exit a surprise though? I'd have thought it would have been announced if he's leaving?

Matt was busy filming at the beginning of December which would mean he could still be on screen in February, but before the anniversary week.

I really don't know what to think....

Maybe the police tell Linda that there isn't enough evidence in her case to bring Dean to trial?

I think this will happen as it's unfortunately the realistic outcome.

Any thoughts on the re-tweet Matt's done? The script? Could that be an episode that he is in, or just a re-tweet?

Tuesday 20th January is going to be an episode to watch!! 3 police officers and only Mick, Linda, Shirley and Dean in the whole episode!

I really want to know the future for Dean. I thought we would have heard by now if he was leaving as he started filming in Feb last year so his contract would be up by now

DTC said recently that Buster was going to come back and possibly be in Dean's corner so I assume he'll be around for a while yet?

Oh I hadn't seen that. Maybe Dean leaves with him eventually??

Have you seen the latest spoiler re Stan collapsing? In the pics Dean is there with Mick and Shirley etc so don't know how the aftermath will pan out!!

Yeh I saw that too...I think Dean still doesn't think that he's done anything wrong.

I must say he was very charming on EE last night with the dancing.

I also believe he doesn't think he's done anything wrong and unless they have like CCTV or something of the rape then they will not be able to prosecute him for it - seeing as Linda never told anyone either!

I think DTC is trying to challenge the viewpoint that all rapists are evil monsters. Some, like Finn O Connor and Frank Foster undoubtedly are but others like Dean, are not. Dean is an ordinary person who happened to commit this horrific crime. Obviously nothing can justify, condone or excuse this crime, but we know that he is an unstable person with mental health problems. Unfortunately there is too much tendency to define a person/character purely by their crime without taking into account their behaviour before and after the crime, their general personality and relationships with other people etc.

I think DTC has definitely done that. Unfortunately it means that he's almost certainly leaving though as in soaps, people are most certainly defined by this crime.

I wonder if, deep down, Dean knows what he has done or whether he genuinely believes he has done nothing wrong?

Such a shame to ruin such a potential character but I suppose it'll be onwards and upwards for Matt in his career

I think this stint in EE has done good for Matt's career (shows he can do complex characters & has really shed the "pretty boy" tag) and I think Matt is seeing it in this way too, given his reaction to the rape plot.

I agree, for Matt, coming back to EE was a great idea and has definitely turned the character of Deano around and has made him into a character we definitely won't forget. If he is leaving after his 1 year contract is up, I do hope though that Matt knew this all along. I'd hate to think that he'd come back to EE hoping to stay for a while and then got given this storyline that has more than likely made him play a character that will more than likely leave.

Is it a bit too late to say Happy New Year? Happy New Year to you all anyway! I haven't been to DS in ages, but have watched every episode of EE. I'm very curious as to what direction this storyline with Dean is going to take. I hadn't predicted that Shirley would have stuck by Dean and refused to believe Linda and went with Dean's version of events instead.

I completely agree that Dean has seemed very reserved, quiet and gentle since Mick and Linda left the Square on Boxing Day. But I expect this to change with their return! Matt di Angelo continues to be fantastic in his portrayal of Dean, and with the return of Matt and Linda, and if the spoilers are anything to go by, I expect to see many more great and emotional scenes for Matt to play out!

By the way Friday night's episode was great, though it seemed like almost everyone at the Ladies' Night event seemed to put their foot in it somehow and offend/upset someone who went storming off/upset!

Yeh I have no idea. I think after Tuesday's episode we'll have more of an idea of what Dean thinks and how he's going to be written.

I think the next couple of nights' episodes will give us a real clue of what's to come for Dean and what his behaviour/mindset will be following the events that will be taking place this week. Maybe he was able to shut out the terrible reality of what he did while Linda and Mick were away, hence his happier demeanour since about New Year's, but with their return, he's going to be reminded of what he did do, there's no hiding away from it or sweeping it under the carpet, so it's going to be very interesting to see what happens! He's in for a rollercoaster of a ride, that's for sure!
