A word of warning on O2's new tariff Favourite Place. f you top up with £10 you are given a 500 minutes to call UK landlines and O2 mobiles from a choosen postcode.

Sounds great doesn't it. All you need to do is add a Txt Bolt On. Even better.

Well if something sounds good there is normally a catch. And there is - You are only allowed Bolt ons which give you more minutes, but you can't purchase txt bolt ons.

Customer Services couldn't believe themselves. They've sent an email to Head Office pointing out that there is nothin in the terms and conditions of this tariff that say you can't use txt bolt ons.

Lets hope they see the light.

An update on this Tariff - I made phone calls from within my selected postcode area, in fact I was in the house, yet I ws charged for the calls, rather than it coming off my allowance of 500mins.

O2 claim that I was outside my postcode area !!!!!

Oh my god - What have I got involved in !!!

I have the same trouble kind of. When its cloudy I get no free calls. But when its sunny free. So I walk to my town centre free calls always. If you are on the edge of the base stations coverage you will get this. I do a test call on my house number to see if its free first

Just had to phone O2 and they have told me Favourite Places wont work in my location cos my phone doesn't use the cell site that O2 have listed for my postcode.

You see if it seems too good.....................

I've had no problems with it at all, strange.

Possibly something about where the OP is is causing his phone to connect to a distant cell.

Well it's not the first time O2 have heard about it. They have admitted that there is problems with this service, that's because it's new. They are carrying out an upgrade to the system because of the number of complaints made.

Basically the nearest cell to me which is Low Moor, Bradford, the one my phone was attached to as being local, is downhill from my location. Where as the cell my phone is connecting through is perched on a hill at Bailiff Bridge in Halifax. Which means most of southern BD12 is connecting through the cell in Halifax.

If you take a look at the Governments online transmitter site O2 do seem to have less cells per area than other providers. i.e. Vodafone have five cells within the area mentioned in which O2 just have two.

I would seriously think before doing this tarrif. I have an issue a while back ago with o2 home 250. I was in my house in my selected postcode and o2 still charged for calls even though I was in my post code area. After a long heated argument with them they informed me that I was in a middle of cell broadcast basically 3 signals from 3 different terminals and I had to try and select the right one. It was a joke I would be sat on the toilet in order to get a free call.
However if you walked up my street to the other end there was no problem. It was a right pain in the bum!

O2 wasnt bothered at all with my complaint. They knew of these issues and I assume the same technology is used for the new plan. They didnt even offer a refund.

Joke was that there Bury Call Centre is around the corner from where I live too!
