Song choices

Given that unusually in this show the judges openly dictate all the song choices without apparently any input from the contestants, I think it would be a good idea for each introductary package to include one of the panel explaining why they chose each particular song and exactly what they were actually looking for in it from the contestant. Then the viewers could make their own call on how well or otherwise each singer has risen to their individual challenge.

Seems to me this would go some way towards reducing the apparant unfairness with some singers having easier or more popular songs to perform than others.

I know they sometimes make reference to this for some performers but unless they do it across the board it can never be a level playing field

Sounds like a good idea.

Unusually? Since when was that unusual? At least, in this show, they are being honest and up front about it and not waiting for one of the contestants to retaliate to criticism of their supposed song choice with "I didn't choose it" like other shows have done.

Having said that, an explanation as to why their blatantly most talented contestant was given what amounts to a rant with which to open the show this week would have been most welcome.

That was bizarre. I don't think they needed to basically sabotage him like that just to try to test out his acting ability. Well I'm presuming that was their reasoning. It's not as if Joseph has to sing in anything approaching that style.

I think that this is a really good idea, and might stop people feeling that there is something suspicious behind the choice of songs.
