Mobiles with qwerty keyboards and texting

I just loathe texting to the very marrow of my being. It takes ages, the predictive text is designed to infuriate, and I usually end up calling anyway as it's quicker.

Yesterday, I was in Glasgow looking for a phone with a qwerty keyboard facility. I looked in Orange, and they had a few Blackberrys, and a couple of phones with mini keyboards on hiding behind the regular keyboard. However, these came with per-month plans and all I want is PAYG.

Does anyone know of a good quality phone that incorporates a qwerty keyboard but that I can also use with an Orange PAYG SIM card? I don't mind the price of the phone - I'd rather pay £250 for a phone than some stupid contract.

I would've asked the staff in Buchanan Street Orange Shop but EVERY time I've been in there, the staff always send two hours chatting to a customer, usually about anything but mobiles.

I went over to Phones 4 U across the street and asked the guy for a phone with a qwerty and he didn't know what a qwerty keyboard was, the dufus. I just walked out. Thick as two short ones.

Any help appreciated!

Check out the thread on Orange customer service, I was looking at switching to them on a Blackberry contract, but this thread has put me right off.

If you can get hold of a Nokia 6822, that has a qwerty keyboard.

Nokia 6822

Think your best bet is eBay for that.
