As I mentioned last week, someone should do 'One Song Glory' from Rent - don't know who though. I'd also like to see Lee and Daniel doing a duet of 'You're What You Own' - also from Rent.

Me? A Renthead? Nah!!

I'd love to see that! Wonder what the theme will be next week?

I thought I would bump this thread up. Anyway next week, I would like the song choices to play on their weaknesses, or show them a different side of the Joseph's.

I would like Daniel to be given a rockier, edgier song. Something that is not poppy/sung by someone under the age or 21 .

I would like to see Craig given a song that is not cheesy and that is vocally challenging.

As Ben is a very good performer, so I would like to see him sing something where the performance is minimal and huge focus on his vocals.

For Keith, we know he is good vocally. However, I'd like to see him a more mature/very emotional, something like Mwn Who Sold the World (although not necessarily that song), a song that cannot really be sold on vocals alone, and is impressive on how much you hit the right emotion.

I'd like to see Lewis do a show tune, something like Luck Be a Lady (although not that song: maybe something that Frank Sinatra would sing), just to see him having to perform, and having to act mature/sophisticated.

I'm not sure what I want to see Lee or Rob sing.

Daniel impressed me this week - even though it did make me laugh to see him trying to turn a McFly song into a show tune!

The song choices are still utterly ridiculous aren't they?! I'd like to have a week where they all sing Lloyd Webber songs - see who can cope with that sort of pressure in front of the Lord!

One Song Glory... would love to see Lee do this, lovely song.

If they want to see a different side to Daniel, how about "Hungry Eyes" from Dirty Dancing. Bit of a dirtier sound. Another different side would be "Can't stand losing you" by the Police, but not sure how well that would go down. Really didn't like his performance of "All about you" this week, one of my fave songs from recent years but he sort of murdered it with that awful note in the last few seconds. Also didn't really like his version of "Since you've been gone", but then again, that's not a great song for showing off a voice.

I'd like to start seeing a few duets, see how they play off another performer. Would love to see one of the lads sing "Light my candle" or "Another day" from Rent with someone else. Please don't let them do any cheesey duets of the sort found on "Just the Two of Us"... not good.

That's a really good idea - I'm surprised they haven't thought of it!

i'd just like them to sing some musical theatre songs, Webber or Sondheim or whatever. all this pop/rock song nonsense doesn't really tell us much about how well they'd perform as Joseph.

One week should be all leading man songs from musicals... I'm not going to list any because I don't know many! But this would be nice to see, proper songs that properly tell a story so they can act AND sing and generally perform.
Best performances on the show are always the "close every door/poor poor joseph" bit at the end, really get tingles down the spine when they do that.

I agree. Most of the boys who have left, were distinctly average throughout the show, and then really shone in Close Every Door. I'm not sure how much of it is the song, and how much of it is the lack of pressure, but I wish the show was consistently of the standard that we see in Close Every Door.

Close Every Door/Poor Old Jospeh is just so powerful and full of pure emotion, anyone who can't raise their bar to that is not quite right for live theatre.

I would love to hear Lee singing the Leo Sayer song, 'Can't stop loving you' its a great song with the opportunity for Lee is act out the lyrics.

I see where people are coming from in saying that the boys should sing show tunes and to a certain extent I agree. I liked Seamus singing 'Being Alive' - even though I wasn't a big fan of Seamus.

But as much as I love musicals on film I've never had the opportunity to see a West End show so i'm not familiar with song from a lot of the shows. I find when I'm not familiar with the song it takes something away from the performance. I'm not sure why, maybe its because I can't judge how there coping with it.

I think it isn't the problem that pop songs are being used but inappropriate pop songs. I thought 'Bad Day' was an excellent song for Lee, as was 'You Give Me Something' for Daniel and my favourite group number has been One Vision. Just stop with McFly, Toploader etc!!

Good point. I love West end shows so would love to see these guys doing more of what they are good at - but I agree that Lee was amazing doing 'Bad Day' I didn't even like that song but since he sang it - I love it - he brought it alive for me, I love Daniel, but I love 'you give me something' the way it was done - so that one didn't work for me. One Vision was great stuff. But as many have suggested on here, I would still love to see Lee do Empty Chairs at Empty Tables from Les Miserables

If they insist on giving the boys pop songs rather than those from the musicals I have a great one for Daniel. 'Insatiable' by Darren Hayes (they guy from Savage Garden). It is a beautiful ballad with some really high notes but the lyrics are very, VERY NAUGHTY! That would keep John Barrowman happy !

I don't mind them not singing showtunes. In fact giving them certain showtunes, while showing off their acting/performing skills, might not give us a good idea of their ability to sing the part of Joseph. There are so many different types of musical, and different voice type suits different musicals better (for example someone who is classically trained could sing certain types of musicals, whereas someone with a rocky voice would suit other types of musicals)

I don't mind them not always singing show tunes (although I have enjoyed the show tunes the most so far). However, pick songs that are in a similar style to Joseph songs and that give the singers room to act/perform.

Studying the podcast and I "think" Ben sings "watch this" as he strides to the steps and the only song I can think of that has those words in that tempo is the one from Evita where it goes "watch this .....I'll put on a show"

I'd love one of them to sing something from the Rocky Horror Show, lots of acting opportunities too. Just Imagine Daniel singing Sweet Transvestite, or Rob singing Whatever happened to Saturday night etc. Brilliant

I bet ALW has given then all pop songs to give the rubbish sorry I mean "weaker" perfomers/singers and chance to get through and try and make it harder for the better/ best singers and try and get 'em in the bottom 2/3, hopeing he can get rid of them so the "weaker" singers stay

it is time to get tough now though and get them to sing stronger songs that sort the finer performers out. I just watched Lee's audition on the bbc site - he did a song from Miss Saigon - it was amazingly strong - John Deep did the same song - but as is his trademark - Lee's version was so much more subtle yet hit the mark - I hadn't seen that before - brilliant.
