Of course, there will be a large proportion of the population whose only knowledge of the World is gleaned from their TV screen - but surely you can say the same thing about a large proportion of the population of this country and their view about America ?”

As a matter of interest what part of the States does your wife come from?

Her Dad was in the forces so she moved around a fair bit.

The areas I know of are Washington DC, Seattle, North Carolina and Florida.

There are bound to be more, she'll drop a 'when I lived in ...' line every now and then that throws me !

That's weird as the younger brother of that friend of mine who married a Russian woman was once married to a woman from NC

By no stretch of the imagination have I been 'all round' The States but, so far, NC is my favourite.

I was treated like a long lost son when I was there - even given a knife and fork to eat my burger with !

Yes thats right - Uncle Kenny - he was great and hilarious.

Do you keep in touch with him?

Are you mad??? They sound incredibly different to me, and I'm British.

I usually like to play a little game called 'spot the Canadian' when watching American TV. I'm quite good at it too.

That's not a joke. I do.
