I know all you experts out there are very knowlegable when it comes to HDTV & Surround systems. I am close to getting some inheritance (at last )
I have set myself a budget of about £1000 for both of them together, not each. But before I leap i'd like to get some views on the choices, and if anyone has any better ideas please say so.

anyway the TV is this one TV

Surround surround

I too am interested in buying a 5.1 Surround system to go with the new plasma.

I notice with your choice of 5.1
No optical input
NO DVD upscalling.

Are these important choices ?
Will optical input make the much difference ?
Is DVD upscalling that important ?

Any answers would be appreciated and may save me £100.

Thank you

An Optical input is important if you want to make use of the Dolby 5.1 from an external source such as Sky+/Sky HD. Not so important with these all in ones if you are just interested in DD5.1 playback from DVDs, as the system will have the necessary decoders built in. Something you will have to consider before buying.

Upscaling DVD players around this budget are basically a gimmick. Your TV will be doing the exact thing, given the price of scaler probably used in the TV, I would have to say it would be better than one of these all in one dvd/sound systems.

Have you a budget in mind?

Personally I would add some thing much better to compliment the TV. If you could add a little more to your budget you may want to consider this...

Denon AVR1507

Tannoy FX5.1

And may be a DVD from one of the supermarkets, they normally come multiregion and play everything you throw at it, and wouldn't hardly add anything to the final price.
