I saw the show for the first time on Saturday night by chance. The stand out performer for me was Seamus and I was very surprised when he was in the final 2. I actually thought he looked the part of Joseph as well. Sorry to see him go but looking forward to next weeks epi.

I didn't really like Seamus but I was really surprised when he was in the bottom 2. And I actually thought Ben was going home. I was flicking channels between ADWD an Grease Is the Word so I missed most of their singoff as I just assumed Ben had went as he is the weaker singer.

It was a shock that he went, was very surprised but he was too arrogant and I didn't like him.

I love watching his goodbye song and the indifference of the rest of the boys first as they walk past, then at the end as they just stand there.

Seamus was undoubtedly the more talented, solid performer and I thought it was an odd decision to make.
But then ALW looked mighty hacked off when Seamus forgot the words and that made it into the edit- so I think there was already a pretty good idea that Seamus was going to end up in at least one of the bottom twos and that he would get bumped.
But was anyone else slightly put off Ben by his aggressive behaviour after winning the sing-off?
Standing in the middle of the stage pumping your fists and stamping is pretty ungracious and not quite - how shall I put it? - British.

I'm afraid Seamus had it coming - he was told early on that he wasn't a team player and needed to shape up, but he took no notice and carried on strutting around thinking he was way better than anyone else. Having said that however, I think the nail in his coffin was forgetting his words in front of ALW (as he said, a vocal coach should know better!) - this part of the competition is far too high-powered for that kind of amateurish crap now (I should imagine that all those who forgot their words have had their cards quietly marked too - it's the one thing ALW hates).

I was very surprised though when Seamus was in the bottom two, and I'm afraid I rather enjoyed his panic and discomfiture when his name was read out - he was SO sure he was going to end up in the final few! What a slimy little git though - 'conspiracy theory' my a**e! (and banging on about editing - you can't edit what wasn't said) - he was just rolling out excuses after excuses for having lost out, and as for that last performance ('a show of my own') who does he think he is! If ALW had had any doubts, that little spectacle must have convinced him that he was right - who would want to work with a self-obsessed berk like that?!

There's no denying he was a great singer, but in my opinion, to have reached 35, to have his talent and to have NOT already had a big break is rather odd, which would suggest that people have seen something in him which they don't like...personally I think it's that HUUUUGE chip on his shoulder...would make him a nightmare to work with.
You don't have to be liked to be talented or to work in that profession, but you need to be able to take direction and accept criticism and that was something he was never going to be prepared to do.

For that reason I think he was right to go over Ben.

Just thought I'd add my view ( for what its worth).
I have only seen bits of the last two shows, but Seamus did stand out.... but only for his pure arrogance. Yes he is talented. Yes he could sing. But as a previous poster remarked, then why at his grand old age hadnt he got any further.

I'm reading Ben Eltons 'Chart Throb' book at the moment. Lets just say it makes you regard these reality shows in a whole different light. They are story boarded every week... and we as the viewing public are manipulated. Why then do I tune in..... well its entertainment. We all get some sort of vicarious pleasure in watching these people put themselves through all sorts to attain that goal.... fame.

You 'owned that song'... you 'made it your own' and all the other cliches. The bad guy on the panel, the good guy.... its pure panto.

As for Seamus, mark my words no doubt he'll turn up in X-factor later in the year ( a la Darius)

I know everyone keeps banging on about how Seamus forgot his words in front of 'the Lord' but so did many of the others, and I didn't think it was very fair of the producers to really emphasise Seamus forgetting and not the others!

Having said that he was the one I loved but also hated (much like Tre in The Apprentice) and I wish he could've stayed in a bit longer so I could get really mad when he spouts out crap about not being a team player etc I think he really let himself down by saying that it was a conspiracy theory and thought that it really did show him as an arrogant sod and maybe he needs to have a bit more humility if he wants to lead a company in the future

Loved the tussle with the coat - You can see Ben laughing, it is hilarious

Good or not I have just watched the sing off again and there is absolutley nothing in Seamus's eyes apart from a smug look as if to say I have this in the bag- wonder what he thought to the audience reaction to Ben

Completely agree about the sing-off - Seamus was charisma-less - and Ben really sold that song. I don't like Ben - I don't like the way he reacted to the result - but he did definitely out perform Seamus on that occasion.

Ben laughing is very funny. Have to say though, when I first watched on Saturday night, I was expecting fists to fly before Seamus would let the coat be taken.

In fairness to Ben, when Seamus launches in to the "close every door" line, it's Ben that's the only one of the Josephs to clap. Even before the audience, he's clapping.

The only "conspiracy" with Seamus is how he ever got through to the finals?? - it must have been seen how bad his attitude was and that he looked too old for the part, hope it was not just for good conflict TV??

I have to agree with you that Seamus really thought he had it in the bag (as did i, to be honest!), and Ben sang his heart out.

Of course if it had been down to previous performances, then Seamus would still be there, but i think ALW took the easy way out to get rid of him when he could.

And i must admit that i missed Ben's laughing and had to watch it again

My poor sister is in mourning over Seamus but i'm slowly convincing her to make some noise for Daniel Boys

I watched the Joseph podcast with Seamus talking about leaving. He says re. "conspiracy theory" that, he had just been kicked off the show and didn't know what to say. He didn't mean it, it was just the first thing to fall out of his mouth. He is calm during his interview, unlike Anthony who looks as if he's about to cry poor thing.

I agree that Seamus comes across as unlikeable but then the show shouldnt be about how nice someone is. I thought he would be a really strong contender based on talent. As a person i don't really like what i see but what would that matter when performing. For example, i can't stand Harvey (ex So Solid Crew) and he really comes across on everything that i've seen him in (and not forgetting the whole Javine thing) as a complete arrogant a**hole! But when i saw him in the West End in Daddy Cool he was good and my views on him didn't make a difference, he gave a good performance and I enjoyed it.

It may not be important if you like him or not as a viewer, but it can be to the Theatre Company, both those on stage and off, sadly Seamus had and has the attitude he knows everything, the way he talked to the other Guy's, you just can't have that - in a theatre company everyone has to work together.
