After the events of the last week, I am getting seriously cheesed off with ALW. Apparently he is going to use Funny Girl as a vehicle for the post-sound of music Connie. I am disgusted. This is Abi's part, he said it himself (as an excuse not to cast her as Maria).
about this... the first time I heard this I was a bit taken aback. Especially since I know that ALW had actually spoken to Abi a couple of times after the show about Funny Girl. However the part doesn't belong to Abi, and it is within ALW's interests to keep his little protegee going.

It's a part I could see Connie doing (one of a very few- she comes across as a limited performer, although I'm prepared to be proven wrong), she has the right quirkiness and above average comic timing. She would seriously have to improve her acting skills though.

Abi on the otherhand would pretty much be the perfect Fanny Brice. She is a fabulous comic actress (and a very witty girl) and the songs would sit very well with her voice. I'm incredibly choosey about my Fanny's , she is one of my favourite characters in any musical, so I was completly suprised when I actually agreed with ALW when he suggested the part to Abi.

Simona was on today's episode of Doctors (2:05 PM) - it was a two-parter, so she might be on tomorrow's as well. She was quite good.

Quick question...

What was the name of the girl who dropped out before the finals? Graham Norton read out the letter from her. Anyone know what she is up to now?
Emily Alford. She was in the Herald not so long ago. She's apparently studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

She says incidentally that she never wrote a letter; instead (I'm writing from my memory of the article here and don't guarantee 100% accuracy) she had an informal and friendly discussion with the producers and the letter Graham Norton read out was broadly based on what she'd said at the meeting. However, she said she hadn't put it in at all the snotty way she was made to sound like on the show, and she hadn't been very happy about it, but had now put it behind her. Her tutor at RSAMD said she was a very kind and humble person.

Just thinking the Marias have all been pretty sucessful so far.

Laura- currenty studying at Mountview

Belinda- swing in Phantom of The Opera

Meliz- writing and recording her own music

Simona- disappeared for a while but was in Doctors this week

Lianne- played Snow White and will soon be in a show called Make Do And Mend. As well as getting some training.

Abi- starred as Fiona in Tim Rice's Blondel and is currently Serena in the touring production of Fame

Aoife- was Roxie in Chicago and now Maria Von Trapp two performances a week

Siobhan- will be playing Patsy in Grease and understudying for Sandy as well as having an album out this summer

Helena- was in the final 6 of The Voice of Musical Theatre, played Gypsy Rose Lee in Gypsy in a oneoff performance, played Dorothy in wizard of Oz. And will be playing Nellie in touring cast of South Pacific.

Connie- playing Maria Von Trapp 6 performances a week

Even little Briony managed to get in Panto!

Will the Josephs have similar sucess? I think the fact that a lot of them were much younger will mean they need more training first.

Am I right in remembering you're a friend of Laura's? Shame we didn't get to see much of her.

Yes, you are right. And yes, it's a shame.

Here are some pics of her in Chess in May 05 - http://www.mkaos.co.uk/news/chessphotos.php

Any Siobhan fans - here's her blog from her rehearsals on Grease is the Word. If I can figure out which shows she's doing Sandy on I may even go see the thing!

Just had a look at the upcoming schedule of our local theatre (The Mayflower in So'ton) and Helena will be there in South Pacific in April next year playing opposite Dave Willetts.

Incidentally the blurb describes her as 'Southampton's Helena Blackman' - I had no idea she was local to me. Does anyone remember anything from the 'Maria' prog about where she was from?

Her myspace page gives Southampton as her "hometown".

Aoife stopped doing Maria in August. Saw her twice - simply stunning - singingwise as well as acting.
