Does anyone else find this guy sickeningly and embarrasingly over-the-top in his effusive praise for virtually all the contestants?

I agree. A bit of critisism wouldn't go a miss! He uses the phrase 'frightening talent' way too much as well.

Really? She's been my least favourite from the start and still is.
He made me cringe Sat night when he was so effusive about even the crap ones. The boy who was really out of key & was screeching like a cat (Antony?) I was so mortally embarrassed for him as it was obviously the wrong song. He still said it was wonderful!!!!

As i said on another thread, he is a male version of Paula Abdul ! She's another one who finds it hard to give negative criticism and faffs around. But even she can, on occasion, speak her mind when its staring everyone in the face that the singer is craptastic!

It's amusing though, hearing him tell them all they will be in the competition for a long time to come ...
Whenever he says that with rich warm sincerity, it seems like the kiss of death - e.g. Seamus and Chris the previous week. When he starts saying warm, sincere "you'll be here for a long time " to the genuine front runners, watch out for a bottom two finish.

I've been unimpressed with all the judges so far.
Denise is just drooling over them for me, which is a shame because she has a lot of musical theatre experience.
I just don't think comments such as 'I LOVE YOU!' are helpful.
She reminds me of Arlene Phillips from SCD. Only more attractive.
