Having known Craig from before he entered Pop Idol, I am watching his progress in the Any Dream Will Do with immense interest.

I am really pleased to see that he has lost that 'Prima Donna' attitude that he had whilst doing the Pop Idol auditions

During his Pop Idol auditions, Craig was vastly over-exposed by the Scottish Tabloids and his general image was overly exposed with him being seen everywhere in the Silver Mercedes Sports Car at all the Publicity gigs he did emblazoned with his name all over the car.

Thankfully Craig has lost that image and now he is coming on in leaps & bounds with his auditions for Joseph and I wish him every success.

Craig is by far the best singer in the contest and if it was all on Singing skills.....Craig would win 'hands down'

Hey Fly by night o/

Welcome to Craig's thread

I didn't watch Pop Idol, so I am seeing Craig for the first time in this competition. A good thing then so it seems lol. I've just seen that Craig gave all his profits from his Pop Idol Appearances to the Moonbeam childrens cancer charity Top man.

I do adore Craig's voice. I'd love him to do an acoustic song. He's so consistent he's got to be in the running. On Saturday he delivered his "moment" performance, but vocally it wasn't his best. You could tell he was absolutely racked with nerves and he was feeling so emotional it came out literally in the voice. People have commented "Craig was good, but imagine Daniel or Lee doing it." Well, I could. Both would have sung it with ten times more vocal control. It would have been slicker - but would it have meant the same? Would they have felt the words like Craig did, being in the bottom two for two weeks ? He was ultimately at the "do or die" stage and from the viewers point of view, Craig taking that song on was great TV.

"This is the moment -
My final test -
Destiny beckoned,
I never reckoned,
Second Best!"

Lyrics taken from here: http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/jekyl...sthemoment.htm

So fitting for a guy who wants to rid himself of the cabaret singer and turn into a bona fide musical theatre actor. His one chance to finally prove he had the right stuff to become Joseph - and he's convincing more people each week that he certainly does

he has a beautiful voice. don't forget joseph is a long show
imo, the other josephs will sound tedious after 20 minutes..

I thought that was a bit cruel especially after the way he had peformed and improved.

hmm, while craig's appreciation thread does not have as
many posts as some of the 'they are not joseph' threads,
he does appear to have more supporters than the others

Yes why was that?
Why did Graham say to him "Craig, you MIGHT be in the singoff" and leave him 'til the final 3?

My guess it was purely for the show. For the tense drama of the "Did he do enough?" question we were all asking. I guess we were being led to believe Craig was still struggling to get enough Votes? Dunno, but when he got told he may have to go through it yet again, he looked like he'd been offered a place on death row. It wasn't nice to see him being emotionally squeezed out of every drop of hope he had left

Things will be different this coming week - he's going to positively shine and be one of the first picked Always the optimist

Here's the BBC ADWD Link interviewing Craig on his thoughts after Saturdays show

http://www.bbc.co.uk/joseph/news/2007/05/13/44275.shtml

Apart from Craig's jaw-dropping breakthrough, highlights of the show were when John B's voice cracked in emotion, when he told Craid how good he was and how much he deserved to be there. My heart swelled it did. And ALW, calling Craig's performance "Phenomenal"

As soon as they said that, I knew he wouldn't be!! It was admittedly cruel (and not good for poor Craig's nerves) but it made good telly and that's what these shows are principally about at the end of the day.

Could it be more people are now seeing that Craig has got the right "attitude" to be Joseph?

I think it may be.
When we think of previous Josephs, the ones that come to mind are Jason Donovan, Phil Schofield and Donny Osmond. All have one thing in common - and that is the word "nice." You immediately think of a Joseph as a nice, gentle man with strength inside - and all three have been successful based on that theory. I think Craig reflects the "Joseph" we have come to associate with the musical. Craig Chalmers, genuinely nice; strong, modest and so willing, fits perfectly into the Joseph mould.

His consistent vocals/stamina to see the show through and his personality and are all key. And I think week by week he unlocks another side to himself and we are seeing the man who could be Joseph being made in front of our eyes !

I'm lovin' it

Craig has been growing every week, and he's definitely one of my favourites now. His performance on Saturday made me really emotional (which is a first for the show so far). He's the favourite in my house at the moment (my mum loves him too!).

Tell you what - the ride (in the show) this bloke is giving me each week is addictive. Phew! He's like a book that you can't put down, you want to see the next bit ! I am loving this competition as my oodles of posts have shown I'm ogling, then laughing, then cheering, then ogling, then teary eyed, shouting at the judges..... wonderful lol.

thAt song suited Craig's voice, the emotion was so obvious, he didnt just sing the song he told the story to us, and for the first time we saw what he is acapable of. As a pop singer i dont rate Craig at all but as a musical theatre singer i think he could be Joseph, he has to keep believing in his himself, the public believe him now but he has to believe also. i have to admit i've heard that song sung by quite a few and all in their own way but Craigs performance was a very genuine performance and i think its what the public want to see in these shows, i hope he now goes on to impress the judges even further.

That's a really good point, and has actually managed to put a new angle on the way I look at the show and it's contestants.

Sworn to secrecy on this week's song. What I will say is that this one demands energy and the air of a superstar, they don't come much bigger than this one!

"Craig last week you were in a huge theatre, playing to everyone all the way up to the gods. This week I think you've got to imagine you are in the biggest stadium in the world and strutting your stuff. Don't hold back. On the first note , hit the groove and don't stop! There is no going back after last Saturday!"

I'm not ashamed to say I still choke watching the playback!

At least I've cleaned out the old tear ducts.....No more itchy eyes!

Although I love Keith and he's my favourite, I am now actually finding myself hoping that Craig wins. I'm not sure why, I just think he deserves it.
