Philips 6506- Set Replacement
I had a faulty philips 6506. It was replaced by the store I got it from and that TV now has the exact same problem ( it's a sound problem). I've been told that my original tv did indeed have a fault and the internal speakers have now been replaced, and it's working fine.
My question is do i have TV no 1 back or go for another set which could well have the same problem. I only had the original set 3 weeks before it was replaced. I've told the store I'd sleep on it before i gave them my decision |

Why not get in writing the details of the fault and a gaurantee that if it happens again in a short time (3 months?) then they'll allow a comparable replacement of your choice?
If it's a one off fault then you might as well have the original TV back.... if both TV's suffered the same fault then maybe there's a known fault that Philips have now resolved and hopefully fixed for good. Philips are generally pretty good TV's so I think you've been unlucky, unless you really don't feel confident or you don't like the TV, I'd be inclined to give it another try. |

thanks! those are generally my thoughts too. I'll inspect the tv on return though to make sure it's not marked or anything

My question is do i have TV no 1 back or go for another set which could well have the same problem. I only had the original set 3 weeks before it was replaced. The 6517 has the L01 LS chassis, 6506 L01 1E and 6518 L04. The following is my edited posts to another forums, describing the problem in detail - first about 6517, then 6506: "A faulty sound which went from bad to worse and finally to absolutely unacceptable. The normal, intended sound was from the start accompanied by a dark, noisy, rumbling sound like the sound when a radio isn't tuned at the right frequency. Even in silent passages of a movie or other content this noise was often heard, and it had nothing to do with events or effects of a movie. From the beginning it was obvious with the pre-settings in "Music" and worst "Theatre". Less obvious, but irritating with "Personal". Only with "Speech" the noise disappeared, but so did most of the joy of sound! No change of the settings for bass or treble made any difference. The same for stereo and mono. Gradually the noise became worse and unbearable, also with the preset "Personal". Now I've been the owner of a Philips 32PW6506, an older model, (with the chassis L01 1E from 2002, I think). As with the 6517 you simply can't use the sound pre-settings "Music" and "Theatre" because of the same noisy "extra" sound. But until recently the sound has been acceptable with the setting "Personal". But not any longer! Yesterday also the pre-setting "Personal" had this noise on every channel, with every connection.....Last year I had the 6526 model, and I didn't notice any sound problem with that. The chassis is the A10 (also with 6515 and 6516)...." "At a danish AV-forum, where I have asked (too!), if anybody knows the problem, I got an affirmative answer from a member. He describes the problem as like "microfone"-noise, which is spot on. I myself described it as a "distant thunder"-noise. We're obviously talking about the same experience. He claims that the L01E-chassis has the fault, and that is is a software-fault, in fact about a feature that has to be switched off - Ultra Bass or something like that, and that it can only be done with Philips ComPair (PC-interface). It raises the question what to do if the TV set doesn't have that interface? As a response to Philips not knowing the problem, he states that Philips should know it, because they have found the solution for at least L01.1E og L01.2E! He hasn't heard/seen the fault on models with the A10-chassis and haven't seen the L04 yet (the new PW6518 and perhaps PW6618). Does this have any meaning for anybody at this forum? As Philips won't recognize any fault with the L01, I've decided to replace the 6506 with the 6518 (it seems that I can have it delivered from the store) with Crystal Clear III and Twin Page Text - 6618 has 2-tuner PIP too - and cross my fingers!" Well, can anybody here enlighten me? I'm running out of alternatives (I simply reject 100 Hz TV's after having watched hundreds, and stores in Denmark are eagerly trying to get rid of large 50 Hz TV's (I had to find out myself that Philips, Denmark, has had the 6518 in store since April 2004, and 6618 too now. No dealers have any of these new models on their list, and if you ask in the store, they don't have them on the PC). If the 6518 has or developes the same fault, I should really like to know if it can be dealt with? |
