For anyone that didn't watch How do you solve a problem like Maria, Helena was the runner up in the show, she had a pretty awful start, and was in the bottom 2 most weeks, but managed to turn public opinion with some fantastic performances (particularly in singoffs).

It's strange how Ben is very much matching this journey.

First week: both in the singoff- both completly outsing there rival and get saved.

2nd week: not in the sing off

3rd week: in the singoff (despite not giving the weakest performances of the night), give an outstanding performance. the beginning of a turnaround in public opinion?

I doubt Ben will get to the final two (pretty sure thats allready been taken by Lee and Daniel. Then again, I never thought Helena would be a real challenger when I first heard her sing 'Crazy Chick' *shudders at the memory!*

Ben has shown flashes of brilliance, and I expect with more training from Zoe he is really going to improve, I hope he stays in for a while so I can see that happen (although obviously not at the loss of Lee and Daniel!). Either way it's obvious that he is one of the biggest benifitors of the Joseph experience.

It's what makes this show so much better than it's rivals. It finds talent and then improves it. It's not just the winner that gets all the benefits.

I said the exact same thing to my dad they other day. There are definately similarities, though i doubt that Ben will get to the final 3. But having said that, i did say the same thing about helena at the time lol

It's funny isn't it? Actually I can think of a few other comparisons.

Seamus and Simona- The Divas.

Connie and Lee- obvious winners?

Siobhan and Daniel- Brilliant singers not-so-brilliant actors (although Daniel is FAR better than barbie doll siobhan was!)

Keith and Leanne- Little people with big voices, too young for the parts.

Lee isn't in the same league as Connie.

Daniel can act Lee into the next continent given a song that will give him the opportunity but they seem to have been reserved for Mr Matching Name and Surname.

I don't think so. Helena had a beautiful voice. Ben should have waited until his had finished breaking.

true... hes far better! I wasn't really a Connie fan tbh she was the definition of average. It was obvious she was going to win though, she never got a bad song, and she was the most like Julie Andrews. I liked her a lot more than I expect I would in SOM but Aoife outperforms her allready.

She did get The Lonely Goatherd!

That doesn't really say much for Lee then, does it?



Who are you saying that Lee is like then? Donny Osmond? Jason Donovan? Philip Schofield? Stephen Gateley? Joseph? Shirley Temple?

To be honest that song isn't as hard to sing as it sounds. Plus it was in the final and they made a big deal out of it being difficult!

She never got a song that ALW even admitted was in the wrong key (like Abi did) or any unsuitable pop songs like Crazy Chick (poor Helena!)

true Helena is far talented than Ben is. I honestly think by the end she could outsing all of them. I just think it's interesting how similar they're 'journey' has been so far.

I definitely see the Helena/Ben comparison, although I think Helena was a lot more talented, and was unlucky in the first week by getting an awful song. Ben is good at emoting during songs, but his actual singing voice is weak compared to most of the others

The Keith: Leanne comparison is quite accurate as well. Both may be good, but they are too young to convincingly pull off the part.

I don't really see Daniel/Siobhan. Daniel is a lot more well rounded than Siobhan. If I had to compare anyone to Siobhan it would be Lewis; both good voices, but whose looks seem to be what people including the judges comment on/notice.

Actually yes your right, that comparison is probably better. Although I haven't been overwhelmed with Daniels acting skills thus far (considering his experience) he is definitely a far better overall performer than Siobhan who was more suited to pop. and also better than most of the other Josephs. I feel bad now

Don't feel bad . To be honest, I think it's so hard to judge people's acting skills solely on how they perform in songs. Comparing to HDYSAPLM, I remember being underwhelmed by Aoife's acting basd solely on her osng performamce, until we actually saw clips of her acting (the scene with Captain Von Trap especially, but also Truly Scrumptious among other clips) where I was blown away by her acting.

Which is why it annoys me that we don't get to see more acting. After all, the majority of the play is spoken, so acting is pretty important.

I couldn't agree more with your post except the word "most" should be replaced with the word "all".

After Sat's performance I so want Ben to do well. i doubt he could win but I think we haven't seen the best of him yet. He bowled me over with that sing off.

Sadly I didn't watch HDYSAPLM but have caught a few bits on you tube and to me Connie stands out but then maybe it is because I am watching in hindsight

I so agree with that. I hope he improves over this compertition just like Helena did and shows what he can do in the end.

Depends if they have two people they could do with and whether they are the most popular. If so you don't have to shape the public vote. If you have popular people you don't want and/or capable singers or better actors you need to get them out before the final and have someone credible but unpopular or the last two. ALW saved Helena continually so he got that - Helena could sing well enough to get second over Sioban and neither she or Sioban was a threat to Connie in the public vote.
