I have a PS3 and an HD Ready LCD TV. Does playing games on the TV have an effect on it. Ive even been told that you should not even play them on any TV. Surely thats a load of crap. I could possibly believe that ob a Standard Tv, but not an LCD Tv.

You should not play them on any TV? Why do they have leads to allow them to be connected to a TV then? What are you meant to play them on, if not a TV? Who has told you that you should not play them on any TV? The same people who say you shouldn't cross the road cos you might get hit by a bus? Isn't that like selling a CD but saying it must not be played in a CD player?
Harry, it sucks

I do remember some people suggesting that the old 1st and 2nd gen consoles should not be used on the main TV in the house. A lot of the old games had a static background, but this should not be an issue with modern games, i would think.

Absolute nonsense, one of the benefits of these hd tvs is the picture quality from new consoles.

Once you've used the tv a little it will be fine. You'll be astounded at the difference between SD and a HD display.

Many the manuals that come with games consles suggest that they shouldn't be used with CRT rear-projection, CRT front-projection or plasma screens as these are more susceptible to screen burn from game scores etc or from the game being paused for long periods. (Go check out an arcade with really old rear-projection games for evidence of this.)

To get around the issue, turn the down the TV from it's factory setttings, don't play for hours on end and turn the TV off when pausing the game for long periods.

Isn't it a bit daft of Samsung to place such a feature on their LCDs, especially when you consider screen burn is not an issue for these types of displays?

NO NO NO. you have the completly wrong Idea.

Game mode adjusts the scaler. Basicly when your watching TV you want the highest possable quality picture so the scaler takes a small about of time to do it to insure quality and also delays the sound so they stay in sync. and you generaly won't notice

But when your playing game that delay between the console produsing the picture and it appearing on the screen is quite anoying. So game mode adjusts the scaler to do the scaling as fast as possable to minimise the delay of the picture appearing on the screen.

Well in my defence the poster who mentioned this 'game mode' had used it in reference regarding static images and screen burn.

I had a Toshiba CRT that had a 'Game' factory setting, this just altered the contrast, brightness and colour settings. Assumed this was a similar feature.
