I am fairly new to this forum, and not exactly well-versed in all things, however, I was hoping someone could help?

After a few years of use, my old Bush 28" CRT TV has gone wonky, and I am looking to replace it with a new one.
Obviously, I want to "future-proof" as far as possible, so was thinking of an HD-Ready LCD TV.

At the moment though - I don't have any HD inputs - just normal Sky+ and a DVD player.

I have a budget of around £500, and was looking for something between a 26" and 32" set.

Can anyone tell me what they think is the best set to get??

I've been thinking about the following so far, but not seen any of them in the flesh yet:

Samsung LE26R74BDX
Philips 26PF5321
JVC LT-26DX7BJ
Samsung LE32R74BDX

As your old set is a 28 inch, the only suitable set there is the 32 inch Samsung, the rest will really look too small - almost any LCD/Plasma set you buy should have the HD Ready logo, so will be fine for HD later.

Thanks for that - is there any concern/issue with putting non-HD signals into it (i.e. my non-HD Sky+)??

Not really, except the set will have to upscale the picture to fit, and this can exaggerate the defects in the picture - also the fact that it's much sharper shows up defects as well.

I would certainly suggest looking at them in the shops to see what you think, make sure you check both SD and HD picture quality.

I have the Samsung LE26R74BDX (have had it for about 18 months now) and I think it's the best TV I've ever owned (it is my first LCD TV). This range of Samsungs is generally highly regarded. This is the range that Microsoft use to showcase the Xbox360 running on HD as well !

Do be aware that it does show up the poor quality video output of certain attached equipment, e.g. older games consoles running on composite video etc. but if you are prepared to maybe have to invest in some better video cabling it is well worth it.

Thanks for the replies - I have purchased a Toshiba 32C3030D from Dixons online.

I went to some of my local high street stores, and compared the Samsung 32R74BDX, the Sony KDL32S2530 and the Toshiba 32C3030D

Eventually, it came down to the Sony and the Toshiba, and my local John Lewis happened to have them side-by-side, so I got a good comparison.

I preferred the Toshiba.

I still have my Sky+ SD input via a scart cable, and a DVD recorder into the other Scart connector.
The picture for Sky is perfectly watchable, although very close-up, it breaks up a little.

I now have my Sony progressive DVD player plugged into the TV via component cable, and thepicture for this is AWESOME!
